Position Summary
This is a 12-18 months contract to cover a maternity leave with a chance of turning into a full time position. The compensation is salary + contract completion bonus.
The HR & Payroll Coordinator supports employees and managers across the Centrum Group by delivering accurate payroll administration, reliable HR operations, and responsive employee service. The role is designed for an early to mid-career HR professional with solid payroll experience who wants broader exposure before progressing into an HR Generalist position.
The successful candidate will work closely with the HR Manager and collaborate with company owners, the CFO, operational leaders, and internal stakeholders across multiple businesses. Payroll capability, attention to detail, sound judgment, confidentiality, and consistent follow-through are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Operations (approximately 60%)
- Prepare employment agreements, letters, employee change documentation, and other HR correspondence.
- Coordinate employee onboarding, offboarding, employment changes, leaves, and return-to-work administration.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready employee files, HR records, trackers,
and supporting documentation.
- Respond to routine employee and manager questions regarding HR processes, payroll, benefits, policies, and documentation; escalate complex matters appropriately.
- Administer employee benefit enrolments and changes and coordinate with relevant internal and external contacts.
- Maintain employee data in UKG and other HR systems, complete regular data-quality checks, and produce reports as required.
- Track work authorization, required certifications, and other employment compliance items.
- Support HR audits, reporting requirements, employee communications, and operational HR projects.
- Identify practical opportunities to improve HR and payroll processes, controls, documentation, and employee experience.
Payroll Administration (approximately 30%)
- Coordinate and support end-to-end payroll preparation and processing for multiple companies and employee groups in UKG.
- Enter and validate new hires, terminations, wage changes, promotions, deductions, leaves, and other payroll-impacting transactions.
- Review time, attendance, employee changes, and payroll inputs for accuracy, completeness, and required approvals before processing.
- Complete payroll reconciliations, quality checks, audits, reporting, and year-end support activities.
- Investigate and resolve employee and manager payroll questions, discrepancies, and corrections in a timely and service-focused manner.
- Maintain payroll trackers, records, controls, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with Finance, the CFO, managers, and other stakeholders to support accurate and timely payroll.
- Apply company procedures and applicable employment and payroll requirements consistently.
Recruitment Support (approximately 10%)
- Post approved vacancies and support candidate communications and interview coordination.
- Complete reference checks, background-screening coordination, offer documentation, and pre-employment administration.
- Support recruitment reporting and other hiring activities when required.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in payroll administration, HR operations, or a combined HR and payroll role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting payroll processing, validating payroll inputs, and resolving payroll inquiries.
- Working knowledge of employee lifecycle administration and confidential HR recordkeeping.
- Exceptional accuracy, organization, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines.
- Robust written and verbal communication and a professional, service-oriented approach.
- Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and appropriate escalation when handling sensitive information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with UKG or a comparable integrated HRIS and payroll platform.
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation, active coursework toward the designation, or equivalent practical payroll knowledge.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, payroll, business administration, or a related discipline.
- Experience in a fast-paced service-based environment such as security, facilities services, restoration, janitorial services, hospitality, or a related industry.
Pay: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
