In this role, your duties as a Maintenance Electrician will be to ensure the responsibility for safely performing the basic tasks required to ensure proper maintenance and repair of the International Coal Piers conveyor system to ensure uninterrupted offloading of International and Domestic coal vessels. Duties will encompass, however are not limited too - task associated with direct interactions with International and domestic vessels and their crews, interaction with other Savage team members, maintenance and operation of the electrical components of the coal handling system (large electric motors, PLC’s/Switch gear, etc.), posting and completing work orders within the company specific computer data base, and basic industrial mobile equipment electrical maintenance.
Duties will also include Rail Center facility maintenance and assisting in Locomotive inspections at that site.
Here’s a preview of what you’ll be doing
- Tasks directly associated to the mooring of incoming vessels, and unmooring of vessels at the completion of coal discharge
- Compliance with all requirements of Marine Facility security
- Operating conveyor systems in accordance with all applicable safety practices
- Working individually and collaboratively with the team
- Completing daily safety inspection of equipment and facilities to ensure safe operations
- Performing routine clean-up, housekeeping, and maintenance of facilities, equipment and coal handling system
- Completing all training including regulatory compliance, safety, and all other designated training, as required. (occasional out of province training is possible)
- Performing other tasks as needed and required
This is what we need from you
- Certified Electrician / Mill Right / Journeyman / Apprentice
- Red Seal preferred, not required
- 2-3 years of experience preferred
- Basic understanding of the operation of industrial mobile equipment
- Preferred Experience:
- Coal handling or aggregate handling conveyor experience
- MFSO (Marine Facility Security Officer) or PWSR (Person with Security Responsibilities) certification
- Willingness to properly wear all required Personal Protect Equipment as deemed necessary by labour standards and Savage
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
- Clean shaven for the purposes of respirator and/or dust mask proper fit, and annual fit test
- Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
- Dependability in attendance required
- Work holidays and weekends as needed
- Work rotating shift schedule and overtime when needed
- Willingness to undertake equipment and facility maintenance task outside of the Pier
Here are some of the minimum requirements for this role:
- High school diploma, minimum 18 years of age
- Willing to work outside in any weather condition
- Must clear a criminal background check
- Climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend a ladder
- Work in an industrial environment containing coal dust, hazardous conditions, confined spaces, and hot/cold conditions
- Stand, kneel or crawl, and walk extensively throughout the day, sometimes on uneven terrain
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
