Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE

To provide issues management services and support to a diverse range of internal clients to protect the reputation of the TransLink enterprise under the direction of Manager to support the company’s strategic communications objectives and business priorities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides issues management services, briefings and support to a diverse range of internal clients across the TransLink enterprise. Proactively works with senior staff and department leaders across the enterprise to identify public-facing issues as they emerge.

Primary contact for issues management across the Enterprise and identifies, monitors and manages issues through their life cycle, including: environmental scanning, analysis of data and ongoing communication with internal clients to anticipate and track potential issues related to the enterprise’s activities; analysis and prioritization of issues; the development of strategies and tactics to address issues; and evaluation of results.

Under the direction of Manager, develops strategies and plans for TransLink’s issues management program, collaborating with Management to ensure alignment to TransLink’s overarching communications strategy for the enterprise. Plays a pivotal role in development of TransLink’s crisis communications plan in conjunction with Manager.

Liaises with Manager, Information Access and assists in preparation of Information requests received for Customer Communications & Public Affairs division. Ensures that TransLink Executive, provincial government and other key staff are fully briefed with messaging and information for all “general” (non-personal)



information prior to disclosure.

Supports reputational and operational crisis/issues management by working with the Manager and other Communications staff to ensure coordinated and consistent messaging aligned to company objectives and issues management strategies and plans.

Researches and implements best practices in issues management. Prepares and edits a wide variety of internal and external communications materials; produces and develops materials for issues management; composes and edits company literature and articles for internal and external use.

Provides insight and recommendations for high-profile projects for the organization specifically within the Customer Communications & Public Affairs division. Projects include, but are not limited to, research, providing overarching proposals based on current and significant internal and external dynamics and seeing the project through during the execution phase.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The competencies for this job would be acquired through successful completion of a university degree/college diploma in Communications, Journalism or Media Relations plus a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in corporate communications or public relations within a large public organization.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Advanced written and oral communication skills to develop and implement issue management strategies, plans and a variety of communication materials.

Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, practices and techniques of strategic communications.

Solid understanding of principles, theories, concepts and practices of communications, including media relations, crises communication, internal and stakeholder communications.

Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to recognize political and other sensitivities, and develop credibility with all stakeholders through communication.

Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment and demonstrate flexibility in providing media services on an on-call/after work hour basis.

Advanced knowledge of standard office tools including word processing, web-based and presentation software

Solid project management,



time management and people management skills to foster positive relationships across and outside Enterprise.

Solid analytical and problem solving skills

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This is a full time temporary position with an estimated end date of March 17, 2028.

Work Designation

Hybrid

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $84,480 - $126,720 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.

The Total Compensation Package, which includes Extended Health, Dental, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility as well as other employment offerings will be discussed in detail as your application progresses.
