Position Information:
The Laboratory Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, quality oversight, and continuous improvement of Laboratory. The Director ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered laboratory services that meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. Working collaboratively with physicians, clinical leaders, and multidisciplinary teams, the Director supports excellence in patient care, workforce development, fiscal stewardship, and innovation.
Leadership and Operations
- Provide leadership and direction for all laboratory operations, including core laboratory, transfusion medicine, pathology and specimen collection services.
- Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational priorities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor operational performance and implement initiatives to improve service delivery and efficiency.
Quality and Accreditation
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and skilled standards.
- Lead quality assurance and quality improvement programs.
- Monitor key performance indicators and develop action plans to address identified gaps.
- Support patient safety initiatives and risk management activities.
Financial Management
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets.
- Identify opportunities for cost containment and resource optimization.
- Lead equipment planning, capital purchases, and business case development.
Human Resources
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for laboratory staff and leaders.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and succession planning initiatives.
- Promote staff engagement,
professional development, and continuing education.
Partnership and Collaboration
- Collaborate with medical leadership, program directors, regional partners, and external agencies.
- Support the integration of laboratory services across the organization and health system.
- Act as a key resource for laboratory-related initiatives and projects.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Health Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Current registration with the appropriate professional regulatory body
- Minimum 5 years of leadership/charge experience in laboratory services.
- Demonstrated experience in quality management, accreditation processes, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong financial, operational, and human resource management skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Leadership, or a related field.
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) designation.
- Experience in hospital-based laboratory services and regional healthcare systems.

- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation requirements, and laboratory best practices.
