ABOUT SMARTPIXEL
SmartPixel is a Quebec-based technology company specializing in the creation of interactive real-time 3D experiences.
We develop applications that enable real estate developers to showcase and market residential projects before they are built. Using architectural plans, 3D models, geographic data, and visual references, our teams recreate realistic and interactive buildings, neighborhoods, and urban environments using Unity.
With projects delivered across Canada and internationally, SmartPixel has a clear ambition: to become a global leader in interactive real-time visualization for the real estate industry.
To support our continued growth, we are looking for an Intermediate / Senior 3D Artist capable of creating and optimizing high-quality 3D assets and environments while meeting the technical requirements of real-time applications.
YOUR ROLE
Working closely with the Lead Artist, Art Director, and other members of the production team, you will contribute to the creation of buildings, urban environments, and 3D assets for our interactive applications.
Your role will go beyond modeling. You will be expected to analyze client-provided references, understand the architectural intent behind each project, and translate that information into realistic, optimized 3D models ready for integration into Unity.
Depending on your level of experience, you will work with a high degree of autonomy and contribute to the continuous improvement of our production methods, workflows, and quality standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Model realistic buildings, urban environments, and 3D assets based on architectural plans, photographs, reference materials, 3D models, and client documentation.
- Create game-ready / real-time-ready assets that meet the visual and technical requirements of our applications.
- Adapt, clean up, rework, and optimize 3D models from various sources.
- Create and manage appropriate Levels of Detail (LODs) to ensure optimal real-time performance.
- Create UVs and develop realistic textures and materials using a PBR workflow.
- Optimize geometry, textures, materials, and assets to achieve the right balance between visual quality and performance.
- Integrate and validate 3D assets in Unity.
- Read, understand, and interpret architectural plans and drawings to ensure the accuracy of the final 3D models.
- Identify missing information, references, or requirements early in the production process and communicate effectively with the team.
- Follow established artistic and technical standards while meeting project deadlines.
- Collaborate closely with 3D artists, developers, project managers, and art leadership.
- Participate in production reviews and contribute to improving the team's tools, workflows, and 3D production pipeline.
- For more senior profiles: share best practices, provide occasional guidance to less experienced artists, and help maintain a high level of quality across the team.
- PROFILE WE'RE LOOKING FOR Core Skills & Experience
- Approximately 3 to 7+ years of relevant professional experience in 3D production, architectural visualization, video games, interactive experiences, or a related field.
- Strong expertise in realistic 3D modeling.
- Excellent knowledge of 3ds Max.
- Experience with Unity and a solid understanding of the technical constraints associated with real-time 3D.
- Strong understanding of asset optimization, including topology, polycount, LODs, UVs, textures, materials, and performance.
- Strong knowledge of PBR texturing workflows, using Substance 3D Painter/Designer or equivalent tools.
- Good knowledge of Photoshop.
- Ability to work effectively from incomplete or evolving references and independently identify the information required to move production forward.
- Strong artistic eye and a good understanding of proportions, scale, materials, and realism.
Nice to Have
- Experience in architectural visualization / ArchViz.
- Positive understanding of architecture and construction.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and plans.
- Knowledge of Revit and/or AutoCAD, including experience working with files originating from architectural software.
- Experience importing, cleaning up, and optimizing CAD/BIM models.
- Knowledge of Unreal Engine.
- Good understanding of real-time lighting, shading, and rendering techniques.
- Experience creating vegetation, street furniture, and outdoor environments.
- Understanding of performance considerations specific to interactive real-time 3D applications.
WHAT WE VALUE
We are looking for someone who combines artistic quality with production efficiency.
You should be comfortable receiving architectural plans, models,
or client references and quickly understanding how to translate that information into a convincing and performant 3D environment.
You also understand that a great real-time asset is not necessarily the one with the highest level of geometric detail. It is the one that achieves the right visual result through smart use of geometry, textures, materials, and available resources.
You are autonomous, detail-oriented, resourceful, and comfortable working in a production environment where multiple projects may be moving forward simultaneously.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
- Strong autonomy and sense of ownership.
- High level of attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work efficiently within production deadlines.
- Strong artistic and technical judgment.
- Ability to receive, understand, and implement feedback effectively.
- Collaborative mindset and clear communication skills.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to proactively identify solutions.
- Curiosity and a desire to continuously improve your skills and workflows.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Hybrid work model combining remote work and access to our Montreal office.
- Flexible working hours supporting a healthy work-life balance.
- Company closure during the holiday season and additional personal days throughout the year.
- Comprehensive group insurance.
- Employer RRSP contributions.
- Allowances for Internet, and certain transportation expenses.
- Career development opportunities within a team specializing in real-time 3D.
- Opportunities to work on large-scale real estate projects in Canada and internationally.
- Modern offices located in downtown Montreal, near Place-des-Arts metro station.
- A dynamic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial work setting.
- Company social activities.
RIGHT TO WORK IN CANADA The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of hire. Proof of eligibility may be required.
