Position: Accountant - New Position
Location: Richmond Hill Head office - job location may change based on Association’s needs.
Hours: 40 hours per week. Hours may change based on Association’s needs.
Remuneration: Starting from$ 63,024.00 per annum plus benefits as per Association Policy

Job Overview: The accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial management of the organization by ensuring accurate financial reporting, leading the month-end close process, and providing financial analysis to support program and organizational decision-making.
The position combines strong accounting expertise with analytical capability, working closely with the Director of Finance, leadership team, and program managers to ensure financial integrity, compliance, and effective use of resources.
What You Will Do:
Budgeting & Forecasting:
· Support the development of annual operating and program-level budgets
· Work closely with leadership and program managers to prepare and review budgets
· Perform monthly variance analysis and provide insights on key financial drivers
· Identify risks, trends, and opportunities and communicate findings clearly
· Support preparation of financial forecasts (6-month, quarterly, as needed)
· Assist in improving budget tools and financial models
Month-end Close & Accounting:
· Lead and coordinate the monthly and year-end close process
· Prepare and post journal entries, including allocations and adjustments
· Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations
· Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately in a timely manner
· Maintain integrity of the general ledger and supporting documentation
Financial Reporting & Analysis
· Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and reports
· Provide clear explanations of financial results to program managers and leadership
· Support program-level financial analysis and reporting
· Develop and maintain reporting tools and dashboards where applicable
Audit & Compliance:
· Prepare audit working papers and supporting schedules
· Liaise with external auditors and respond to inquiries
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and funding requirements
· Support regulatory and funder reporting as required
Other Tasks:
· Prepare donation tax receipts using Donation online and record donations in the General Ledger using Sage Intacct.
· Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and workflows
· Prepare and file for quarterly HST rebate.
· Provide backup for biweekly payroll processing and across finance functions as required.
· Support automation initiatives and system enhancements
· Assist in streamlining reporting and reducing manual processes
· Support special projects and organizational initiatives
· Perform other related duties consistent with the scope of the role
What We Need:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
· CPA designation (or in progress) preferred
· 3+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience or equivalent education
· Non-profit experience is an asset
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting as well as payroll processing.
· Advanced IT Skills including Excel.
· Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct preferred)
· Understanding of automation technologies and AI-enabled process improvement opportunities
· Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent communication skills
· High attention to detail and accuracy
