Changing the world, one book at a time.

As a team of dedicated book-loving professionals, we discover, shape, and share content that nurtures thoughts, dreams, and conversations around the globe, ensuring that new and established voices are heard.

We’re looking for a strategic, curious, and collaborative Advertising Manager to help shape the future of paid media at Penguin Random House Canada.

Are you the kind of marketer who gets just as excited about big-picture strategy as you do about figuring out why a campaign is or isn’t working? Do you love keeping up with what’s changing across Meta, TikTok, Google, Reddit, and the wider advertising landscape, and using what you learn to make campaigns smarter and more effective? Are you excited by the idea of helping readers discover their next great book?

We’re looking for an experienced advertising professional who can bring both strategic thinking and hands-on expertise to our Marketing team. You’ll help define how we approach paid media across Penguin Random House Canada, working collaboratively across teams to build effective campaigns that connect books with readers.

If you’re curious about new opportunities in advertising, enjoy finding ways to improve what’s already working, and like helping teams make informed decisions, we’d love to hear from you.

Your contribution to the story:

At Penguin Random House Canada, you’ll be part of a vibrant and growing company that is home to acclaimed authors such as Margaret Atwood, Cherie Dimaline, Chris Hadfield, Zadie Smith, Naomi Klein, Colson Whitehead, Salman Rushdie, Sarah Polley, Jody Wilson-Raybould, Emily Henry, Cormac McCarthy, Celeste Ng and John Irving, among many other brilliant writers.

Our advertising team works across Penguin Random House Canada to support paid media campaigns for our books, bringing expertise in advertising strategy, channels, technology, audiences, and measurement.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing, you’ll help shape our paid media approach across the business. You’ll guide teams on campaign strategy,

oversee the tools and partners that support our advertising, and use performance insights to inform and improve our work.

What you’ll do:

- Help define and evolve Penguin Random House Canada’s advertising strategy and approach, in partnership with the Director, Marketing.
- Lead our approach to advertising technology, partners, services, and channels, including evaluating and onboarding current opportunities, and owning relationships.
- Act as an advisor to marketing teams, using campaign performance to guide decisions across audiences, channels, objectives, and investment.
- Develop and execute thoughtful paid media plans for a wide range of books and audiences.
- Keep teams connected to live campaign performance, providing clear recommendations to optimize results.
- Champion advertising best practices, keeping teams informed about platform changes, emerging technology, and evolving audience needs.
- Partner with the Marketing Analyst on larger advertising performance reports, measurement initiatives, and testing campaigns, helping turn data into actionable insights.

Experience and knowledge you’ll bring (qualifications):

- 4+ years of hands-on advertising experience, with a strong focus on digital and social advertising and experience with platforms such as Meta, TikTok, Google, and Reddit.
- Agency or internal client service experience is considered an asset.
- Confident with existing and emerging advertising technology and opportunities (online and offline)
- Thorough understanding of advertising best practices and strategies
- Proven experience building, maintaining, and optimizing successful paid campaigns across platforms
- Demonstrated expertise in planning, executing, and optimizing marketing campaigns for a variety of audiences, with the strategic judgment to recommend the right approach for different objectives.
- Experience evaluating and implementing marketing technology, with the curiosity and confidence to assess new tools, platforms, partners, and opportunities.

- A strong command of advertising data and analysis, including proven experience, turning campaign performance into clear, useful reporting and recommendations for a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize objectives and consistently meet deadlines.
- A proactive mindset coupled with an ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and collaborative digital tools, including Teams and Asana.
- An inclusive approach, supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from a wide range of diverse backgrounds.
- Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization is considered a plus.
- And of course, a deep passion for books!
