Department of Microbiology Faculty of Science University of Manitoba Assistant or Associate Professor Posting End Date: September 26 2026; posting may remain open beyond this date until filled. The Department of Microbiology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, commencing no later than June 11, 2027. The Department seeks an emerging scholar committed to excellence in research and teaching.

Applicants whose research could benefit, either through direct use or collaboration, from structural biology methods, including cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography, are encouraged to apply. To support Canadian pandemic preparedness research and development, the University of Manitoba Faculty of Science is developing a new 21,000 sq. ft. facility for vaccine and biologics R&D; and pre-clinical biomanufacturing with funding from the Canadian Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program.

They will also have the opportunity to engage with UM experts in protein biochemistry, and structural biology (Cryo-EM and X-ray), biophysics, microbiology, and virology in the Faculty of Science. In addition to the above research interests and expertise, the successful candidate will have a PhD and postdoctoral or other distinguishing experience in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Biosystems Engineering or related fields. They will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications; demonstrate or show strong potential to establish and sustain an independent, innovative,



externally fundable research program; have demonstrated strength or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions; Duties will include teaching introductory biochemistry and teaching in the applicant’s area of interest; graduate teaching and supervision; research, including the establishment of an externally funded research program; To enhance our department, we particularly invite applications from those who will increase and support our diversity, including women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized persons, underrepresented groups such as 2SLGBTQIA+, and those committed to an inclusive environment.

The Department currently has 17 full time tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 4 Instructors, offers a full range of both undergraduate and graduate programs in Microbiology, and contributes to Faculty of Science based undergraduate programs in Biochemistry and Genetics.
