Position: Before & After School Program Assistant

Reports To: School Age Administrators

Job Overview

As a Program Assistant with Milestones Children's Centre, you will support the delivery of inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate programs for children in a welcoming environment. Working alongside the School Age educators, you will help foster positive child development, encourage meaningful participation for all children, and promote a safe, supportive, and fun learning experience.

Job Summary: The Program Assistant will demonstrate competence and dedication to the care and education of young children by providing additional support to the program to ensure that inclusion exists for all children. All aspects of the Program Assistant position will be performed while working within the framework of the vision, mission and value statements and the policies and procedures of Milestones Children’s Centre, the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the Child Care Centre Licensing Manual and How Does Learning Happen?.

- Demonstrate an understanding of MCC Policies and Procedures and the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.
- Work as part of a team to implement developmentally appropriate activities in an inclusive environment for all children (Program Assistants are not included in ratios)
- In hard to manage situations,



determine appropriate behaviour guidance strategies and intervention through discussion with your Supervisor
- Work with your co-workers and the Resource Consultant to promote the inclusion of all children
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the position through attendance, punctuality and enthusiasm for work.

Qualifications and Skills

Competency Skills:

- Understanding of child growth and development

- Strong background in positive behaviour guidance
- Preference for candidates with experience working with children with developmental disabilities

Minimum Qualifications:

- 18 years of age, having obtained a high school diploma
- Experience working with children
- Standard/Intermediate First Aid & Infant/Child CPR-C
- Criminal Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) within the past 6 months
- Up-to-date immunizations (specifically MMR and tetanus)
- Preference given to those with B.Ed, CYW, DSW, PSW, Rec & Leisure,or RECE or candidates with experience working with children with developmental delays and/or behavioural challenges

Wage: between $20.50-$21.49/hour plus $1.00/hour of city provided wage enhancement and $2.08/hour of provincial wage enhancement. Starting rate will be determined based on education and experience. Note: meetings,



Professional Learning time, and orientation are not eligible for the provincial wage enhancement. Paid online and in-person orientation prior to start date.

Start/End Date: September 8, 2026 – June 29, 2027

Hours (split shift):

Morning: Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. - 9:10 a.m.

Afternoon: Monday to Friday 3:25 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

Plus one morning staff meeting per month

Possible Additional hours:

- up to 8 hours/day may be available during non-instructional days (PD days, Spring Break and Summer Camp)
- casual supply staff opportunities in our School Age Programs as well as at the Children's Centres (Aylmer and St. Thomas) are available outside of the contract hours for this position, if interested
