Company Description The Farm in Stouffville is a private, residential mental health and addiction treatment center in the Greater Toronto Area, specializing in recovery from drug, alcohol, and prescription medication addictions.
Role Description The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and presenting nutritious, high-quality meals that support the physical and emotional well-being of clients and staff. This part-time, on-site role is based at The Farm in Stouffville in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, and involves working closely with clinical and support teams to align menus with dietary needs and treatment goals. Daily tasks include designing balanced menus, sourcing fresh ingredients, cooking and plating meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards, and managing inventory and ordering.
The Chef collaborates with colleagues to accommodate special diets, allergies, and preferences, and helps create a calm, welcoming dining experience that enhances the therapeutic workplace. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends as needed, is expected.
Qualifications
- Must have Food Handlers Certificate
- Demonstrated culinary skills, including menu planning, meal preparation,
and food presentation in a professional kitchen setting.
- Knowledge of nutrition, special diets, and food safety standards, including safe food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
- Experience working in healthcare, residential, or hospitality environments where client service and discretion are essential.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities to coordinate meal service and manage inventory efficiently.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate respectfully with multidisciplinary staff and interact compassionately with clients.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Formal culinary training, certification in food handling or food safety, and prior experience as a chef or cook are highly beneficial.
- Commitment to a non-judgmental, inclusive, and client-centered approach, with sensitivity to mental health and addiction recovery needs.
- Availability on Fridays and Weekends.
