Child Engagement Facilitator

About the Role The Child Engagement Facilitator works collaboratively with the Adventure4Change team to create safe, welcoming, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate spaces where children can learn, play, build relationships, express themselves, and experience a strong sense of belonging.

At A4C, we see children as more than recipients of programs. We recognize them as capable, curious, creative, and active members of their communities. Their ideas, identities, cultures, strengths, and perspectives matter and should help shape the programs and environments created for them.

The Child Engagement Facilitator will build meaningful relationships with children and families while supporting the planning and delivery of engaging, child-centred programming through Adventure4Change and Better Beginnings Waterloo (BBW).

What You’ll Do

Engage and Support Children

- Build positive, caring, and consistent relationships with children.
- Create inclusive environments where children feel protected, respected, valued, and able to participate fully.
- Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities, including literacy, arts and creative expression, recreation, movement, games, social-emotional learning, and other enrichment activities.
- Adapt activities to children's different abilities, cultures, interests, developmental stages, and learning needs.
- Create meaningful opportunities for children to express their ideas, make choices, and contribute to programming.

Plan and Deliver Quality Programming

- Contribute to the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of A4C-Better Beginnings Waterloo children's programming.
- Prepare program plans, activities, materials, and supplies in advance.
- Help maintain welcoming, engaging, organized, and meaningful program spaces.
- Support camps, outings, community events, celebrations, and other child and family engagement activities.
- Observe children's participation and interests and use these observations to strengthen future programming.
- Contribute to program review, documentation,



evaluation, and continuous improvement.

Promote Children's Safety and Wellbeing

- Provide active and attentive supervision of children.
- Promote children's physical, emotional, and relational safety.
- Recognize and appropriately respond to concerns related to children's wellbeing in accordance with A4C policies and safeguarding procedures.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with children and families.
- Ensure program spaces, equipment, toys, and materials are safe, clean, organized, and appropriate for children's use.

Build Relationships with Families and Community

- Develop respectful and trusting relationships with parents and caregivers.
- Communicate with families about programming, activities, opportunities, and relevant information.
- Work collaboratively with A4C's family engagement team to create meaningful opportunities for families to contribute to and shape children's programming.
- Recognize and value the cultural knowledge, experiences, languages, and strengths that children and families bring.
- Help connect families with appropriate A4C programs, resources, opportunities, and team members when additional support is identified.

Collaborate and Contribute

- Be an active and contributing member of the A4C-Better Beginnings Waterloo team.
- Collaborate with colleagues across A4C programs to provide coordinated and responsive support to children and families.
- Contribute to positive relationships with schools, community organizations, service providers, volunteers, and other partners.
- Participate in team meetings, training, planning, reflection, and organizational learning.
- Maintain accurate program documentation, including attendance, program plans, incident documentation, participation information, and other required records.
- Contribute observations, feedback, outcomes, and stories that support evaluation, organizational learning, and funder reporting while protecting the privacy of children and families.

What You Bring We are looking for someone who brings a combination of education, experience, relational ability,



and a genuine commitment to children and families.

Ideally, you will have:

- A bachelor's degree related to child development, a two- to four-year college program in Early Childhood Education, or a comparable combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience working with children and families in community, educational, recreational, childcare, or related settings.
- A positive, caring, patient, and compassionate approach to working with children.
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, culturally responsive and inclusive approaches to child engagement.
- A genuine commitment to working alongside diverse communities and populations experiencing systemic barriers.
- Strong observational, organizational, planning, verbal, and written communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively while also taking initiative and providing leadership when needed.
- A strong commitment to children's safety, dignity, belonging, and wellbeing.
- An appreciation for upstream approaches that recognize and respond to the broader conditions affecting children and families.
- CPR-C and Standard First Aid certification, or willingness to complete the required training.
- Valid G-class driver's license and access to a vehicle is an asset.

We particularly value candidates who bring lived experience, cultural knowledge, multilingual abilities, or meaningful experience working alongside newcomer, racialized, and culturally diverse children and families.

Position: Child Engagement Facilitator

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: Waterloo, Ontario – this is a fully in-person role.

Work Hours: You will be required to work some evenings and weekends.

Reports to: Program Manager

Salary Range: $52,860–$55,500

Start Date: As soon as possible
