Position Summary:
The CMM Programmer-Operator is responsible for programming and operating Mitutoyo CMM equipment using COSMOS software to perform precise dimensional evaluations of automotive parts and fixtures. This role ensures compliance with engineering specifications, GD&T; standards, and quality requirements through accurate layouts, calibration, and capability studies. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise in metrology, and effective communication to support quality assurance processes.
This position is on Day Shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Writes programs and operates Mitutoyo CMM using COSMOS software.
- Writes programs and operates Zeiss using Calypso software.
- Performs dimensional evaluations using fixtures , hand instruments/ gauges, and CMM.
- Verifies parts and fixtures for PPAP.
- Calibrates fixtures.
- Completes annual dimensional layouts on parts.
- Ensures part layouts and inspection fixture certifications are completed as scheduled.
- Ensures accuracy of part and fixture layouts and reports by verifying proper nominal locations and tolerances.
- Ensures accuracy of part and fixture layouts by utilizing proper layout techniques.
- Identifies and maintains traceability of samples before and after testing.
- Ensures measuring devices are calibrated, identified and located per gage tracking database.
- Conducts capability studies of components and assemblies – including GD&T; experience.
- Conducts GR&R; studies of inspection fixtures and hand held measuring devices.
- Provides technical support for quality issues, prototype parts and fixture designs.
- Conventional measuring, using a range of hand equipment
- Preparing inspection reports for internal and external use.
- Reporting results to relevant departments.
- Complies with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of hands on experience using Mitutoyo CMM / Cosmos software (able to program and operate).
- GD&T; applied knowledge, SPC, and metrology.
- Experience in layout of parts, fixtures & tooling components to blueprints, engineering specifications and CAD data.
- Able to conduct capability studies on selected characteristics on parts.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience using Zeiss Calypso software (desirable).
