Community Connection is seeking enthusiastic, customer-focused individuals to support the delivery of high-quality pickleball programs and services through Pickleball Instructor, Pickleball Attendant, and Pickleball Convenor roles at new outdoor pickleball courts at the Fieldgate Sports Complex. These positions will help create welcoming, safe, inclusive, and well-organized experiences for participants, members, and guests during a pilot program from mid-September to end of October 2026. Individuals applying for these positions will be hired by Community Connection.
This is separate from Town of Whitby program positions and employment.
What You Will Get To DoOutdoor Pickleball Attendant· Provide friendly, professional customer service to participants, members, guests, instructors, convenors, and facility users.
· Support daily front-line operations, including participant check-in, program registration support, court booking assistance, attendance tracking, score reporting, and general inquiries.
· Assist with program, league, clinic, and drop-in set-up and take-down, including nets, paddles, balls, signage, seating, and other equipment needs.
· Monitor court use, participant flow, open play rotation, facility cleanliness, equipment condition, and general safety throughout scheduled activities.
· Respond to participant concerns, operational issues, minor incidents, and first aid situations within scope of training, and report concerns to the appropriate staff member.
· Communicate program updates, schedule changes, facility information, and procedures clearly to participants and staff.
· Support an inclusive, accessible, respectful, and welcoming environment for players of all ages, abilities, and skill levels.
Outdoor Pickleball Instructor· Plan and deliver safe, engaging, and progressive pickleball lessons, clinics, drills, and skill-development programs for beginner, intermediate, and recreational participants.
· Teach pickleball fundamentals, including rules, scoring, court positioning, strokes, serving, strategy, etiquette, safety, and game play.
· Adapt instruction to meet participant needs, abilities, learning styles, and confidence levels while encouraging participation and skill growth.
· Prepare lesson plans, organize drills, manage equipment,
and ensure courts are set up safely and appropriately for each session.
· Provide encouragement, feedback, demonstrations, skill assessments, and corrections in a positive and professional manner.
· Monitor participant safety, manage group dynamics, respond to minor incidents, and report injuries, behavioural concerns, or program issues to staff.
· Support participant retention and program improvement by sharing feedback, attendance information, and recommendations with recreation staff.
Outdoor Pickleball Convenor· Oversee the smooth on-site delivery of pickleball leagues, round robins, tournaments, ladders, drop-ins, and organized play sessions.
· Welcome participants, explain session format, review rules and expectations, organize player rotations, and support fair and efficient court use.
· Maintain schedules, scores, standings, attendance records, and other basic program information as required.
· Promote sportsmanship, respectful play, inclusion, safety, and adherence to policies, facility procedures, and program guidelines.
· Assist with set-up and take-down of courts and equipment and ensure the play area is organized, safe, and ready for participants.
· Serve as the on-site point of contact for participant questions, schedule details, court assignments, minor conflicts, and operational concerns.
· Report incidents, injuries, participant concerns, facility needs, attendance trends, and program feedback to recreation staff.
Who You AreYou are a collaborative, customer-focused recreation professional who enjoys working with the public and supporting active, inclusive communities. You are comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with on-site program coordination and can communicate clearly with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
QualificationsShared Qualifications· Friendly, reliable, and comfortable working with the public.
· Interest in recreation, sport, community programs,
or customer service.
· Basic knowledge of pickleball, or willingness to learn.
· Positive communication and teamwork skills.
· Able to follow instructions, safety procedures, and policies.
· Comfort using email and basic computer systems.
· CPR-C, or willingness to obtain.
· Available for flexible shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
Outdoor Pickleball Attendant Qualifications· Customer service or front desk experience is an asset.
· Able to greet participants, answer questions, and help with check-in.
· Able to set up, take down, and monitor equipment and program spaces.
· Organized and able to complete basic attendance, registration, or reporting tasks.
Outdoor Pickleball Instructor Qualifications· Experience playing pickleball or another racquet sport.
· Able to teach basic pickleball skills, rules, scoring, and safe play.
· Comfortable leading small groups and giving clear instructions.
· Coaching, teaching, or instructor certification or experience is an asset.
Outdoor Pickleball Convenor Qualifications· Experience participating in or helping with leagues, drop-ins, tournaments, or organized play is an asset.
· Able to explain session formats, organize player rotations, and support fair play.
· Comfortable speaking with participants and helping resolve minor concerns.
· Organized and able to track attendance, scores, schedules, or other basic program details.
Hours of Work and Contract TermThis is a part-time contract position of up to 24 hours per week until October 31, 2026. Hours may vary based on program needs and may include daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. This work will take place primarily outdoors at sport courts and recreation facilities in Whitby.
What We Offer· Pay Rate: $20.00 / hour (attendants and convenors) and $28.35 / hour (instructors)
