We built the events board Alberta was missing. Now we need someone to go tell Alberta about it.
Alberta Current is one province, one place. Every event, every day — concerts, games, markets, storytimes, gallery openings, hall dances, festivals. Gathered from across the province every night and checked by a person, not scraped and dumped into a feed. Free for every reader. Free for every organizer, always.
The board is live and the weekly email goes out every Thursday. What we don't have is someone out in front of it — on social every day, at the shows and the markets, in the room with the venues and the sponsors. That's this role, and it's the first one of its kind here. Whoever takes it builds it.
What you'd be doing
Running our social channels. Posting most days across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Pulling reels and stories out of what's actually on the board that week. Answering the DMs. Building real relationships with the venues, promoters, festivals, bands and local accounts that already have the audience we want.
Growing the list. Getting Albertans onto the weekly email — at events, through partners, through your own network. Converting some of them into paid supporters.
Being out there. Shows, markets, festivals, openings, chamber mixers. You'd focus on one or two cities and work outward. This isn't a laptop job.
Selling. Advertising and sponsorship to venues, promoters, festivals and local businesses who want to reach people in the moment they're deciding what to do this weekend.
Plus municipalities, funders and media partners, where the conversation is a different one. This is what you get paid on.
How it pays
Straight commission, uncapped.
- 25% of current advertising and sponsorship revenue, for the first 12 months of every account you open
- 30% instead of 25% in any quarter where you hit your subscriber growth target
- 10% ongoing on those accounts after the first year, for as long as they stay with us and you're still in the role
- 30% of paid subscription revenue you bring in, first 12 months
Paid monthly on revenue we've actually collected. You're an independent contractor — you set your own hours, and Alberta is yours.
Who this is for
Someone who already goes out. Who knows a few venue managers, or could within a month. Who's comfortable walking into a business and asking for money, and comfortable shooting a reel on their phone that same afternoon.
Sales experience helps. Being genuinely plugged into an Alberta music, arts or events scene helps more.
You don't need a journalism background. You don't need to write.
What we provide
Business cards, a branded email address, the media kit and rate card, your own referral link, and access to the listings system. And the board itself, updated nightly — which is the thing you're actually selling.
