Our client, Tundra Rescue is looking for an experienced Confined Space Rescue Supervisor who is ready to become one of the next leaders of our field operations team.

This is a hands-on field leadership position for someone who is technically capable, dependable, calm under pressure, and motivated to help develop the people around them. The successful candidate will supervise confined space and technical rescue deployments while also supporting training, operational readiness, equipment management, and the continued development of Tundra Rescue’s field team.

The Opportunity The Confined Space Rescue Supervisor will lead assigned field teams and maintain overall responsibility for the safe preparation, execution, and closeout of confined space rescue deployments.

The successful candidate will serve as a working supervisor—actively participating in field operations while providing leadership, technical direction, mentorship, and effective care for the people assigned to their team.

This position may develop into a more senior field operations leadership role for the right individual.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership and Operations

1. Lead confined space entry and rescue standby deployments safely and professionally.
2. Review project information, hazard assessments, entry plans, rescue plans, permits, and client requirements.
3. Confirm that team size, qualifications, equipment, rescue systems, respiratory protection, communications, and other resources are appropriate for the assignment.
4. Lead pre-job briefings, toolbox talks, equipment checks, and system safety checks.
5. Supervise attendants, rescuers, and other assigned field personnel.
6. Establish clear responsibilities and maintain effective communication throughout each deployment.
7. Make appropriate go/no-go and stop-work decisions when conditions are unsafe or the rescue plan is inadequate.
8. Oversee confined space permits, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation, lockout/tagout verification, entry control, and rescue readiness.
9. Lead and coordinate emergency rescue operations when required.
10. Maintain professional communication with client representatives, workers, contractors, and site safety personnel.
11. Provide clear feedback, coaching, and mentorship to field technicians.

Technical Rescue Responsibilities
1. Assess confined space access, egress, hazards, rescue requirements, and potential casualty-removal challenges.
2. Select, install, inspect, and supervise appropriate retrieval, lowering, hauling, belay,



and fall-protection systems.
3. Maintain readiness for both non-entry and entry rescue.
4. Work safely with equipment that may include tripods, davit systems, winches, ropes, mechanical-advantage systems, stretchers, gas detectors, ventilation equipment, SCBA and supplied-air systems.
5. Support high-angle rescue assignments where qualified.
6. Ensure all rescue systems are inspected and operational before work begins.

Training and Team Development
1. Support the onboarding and development of confined space technicians and supervisors.
2. Assist with internal refresher training, practical exercises, and competency evaluations.
3. Identify training gaps and provide constructive field-level coaching.
4. Help create a positive culture of accountability, professionalism, continuous learning, and team care.
5. Contribute to the improvement of field manuals, rescue procedures, training materials, and operational practices.

Equipment, Vehicles and Operational Readiness
1. Inspect and maintain assigned rescue equipment, vehicles, trailers, and field supplies.
2. Ensure equipment is properly stored, documented, restocked, and ready for the next deployment.
3. Quarantine and report damaged, missing, expired, or questionable equipment.
4. Complete required equipment audits and inspection records.
5. Help maintain an organized and qualified field operation.

Documentation and Reporting
1. Complete all required field documentation accurately and on time.
2. Document hazard assessments, permits, toolbox talks, equipment inspections, atmospheric readings, near misses, incidents, and project closeout information.
3. Maintain proficiency with Tundra’s scheduling, safety, inspection, and documentation systems, including Workstaff, Corfix, and Scannable.
4. Take appropriate worksite photographs and upload project documentation as required.

Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will have:
1. Meaningful field experience in confined space entry, standby rescue, industrial emergency response, firefighting, technical rescue, or a closely related field.
2. Previous experience leading or supervising rescue personnel, industrial workers, or emergency-response teams.
3. Strong knowledge of confined space hazards, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation, entry permits, isolation and lockout/tagout procedures.
4. Practical experience building and supervising rope-based rescue and retrieval systems.
5. Experience using SCBA and/or supplied-air respiratory protection.
6. A sound working knowledge of applicable Ontario confined space, construction, occupational health and safety, and working-at-heights requirements.
7. Strong communication, decision-making, documentation, and customer-service skills.
8. The ability to remain calm, organized, and decisive during complex or emergency situations.
9. The judgment and confidence to stop work when conditions are unsafe.
10. A willingness to mentor others and accept coaching and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications would be considered assets:
1.



Recognized confined space rescue training.
2. NFPA 1006–aligned confined space and rope rescue training.
3. High-angle or rope rescue certification.
4. SPRAT or IRATA rope access certification.
5. Valid Working at Heights certification.
6. Standard First Aid with CPR/AED.
7. Respiratory protection and SCBA/SABA training.
8. Gas detection, lockout/tagout, elevated work platform, forklift, or other industrial certifications.
9. Experience delivering technical or safety training.
10. Experience preparing or reviewing confined space hazard assessments and rescue plans.
11. Experience working in construction, industrial shutdowns, mining, utilities, wastewater, manufacturing, energy, or infrastructure environments.

Candidates do not need to possess every preferred qualification. Tundra Rescue is prepared to invest in the training and development of the right person.

Physical and Scheduling Requirements

Applicants must be able to:
1. Maintain the physical fitness required for confined space and technical rescue work.
2. Wear respiratory protection and complete required medical and fit-testing requirements.
3. Work at heights and in confined, dark, dirty, hot, cold, wet, or physically demanding environments.
4. Lift, carry, position, and operate rescue equipment.
5. Work days, nights, weekends, shutdown schedules, and extended shifts when required.
6. Travel throughout Ontario and occasionally remain away from home for multi-day assignments.
7. Respond professionally to changing schedules and short-notice client requirements.

A valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and an acceptable driving record are required.

Preferred Home Location

Because this is a field-based position involving travel to client locations throughout Ontario, preference may be given to candidates living within or near the following areas:
1. Greater Toronto Area
2. Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, or surrounding region
3. Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, or Guelph
4. London and surrounding Southwestern Ontario
5. Barrie, Simcoe County, or surrounding Central Ontario
