CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR (ICI)

Mike Moore Construction is looking for an experienced Construction Estimator (ICI) to join our growing team.

We are looking for someone with solid industrial, commercial & institutional construction knowledge who can take a project from tender documents and drawings through to a complete, accurate and competitive bid. The ideal candidate understands how buildings are actually constructed and can identify potential costs, risks and opportunities before a project is awarded.

THE ROLE

As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for ICI construction projects. You will work closely with project managers, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants and our construction team to develop complete project pricing and successful bids.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Review architectural, structural, civil and mechanical & electrical drawings, specifications and tender documents
- No residential estimating
- Review geotechnical reports
- Complete detailed quantity takeoffs and scope reviews
- Prepare accurate estimates for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors and other project costs
- Solicit, receive and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
- Compare pricing and ensure quotations are complete and aligned with the project scope
- Prepare competitive tender submissions, bid forms, budgets and detailed cost breakdowns
- Participate in pressure packed tender closings
- Review addenda, drawings and specification changes throughout the tender process
- Identify scope gaps, potential risks,



exclusions and areas requiring clarification
- Work with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain accurate and competitive pricing
- Develop and maintain current labour, material and subcontractor pricing
- Assist with value engineering and identifying cost-saving opportunities
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits when required
- Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors
- Assist with the transition from estimating to project management following successful bids
- Maintain organized estimating files and detailed documentation for each tender
- Some Design-Build estimating and providing budgets to Consultants
- Pre-engineered steel building knowledge and estimating abilities are an asset

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

- 5+ years of ICI construction estimating experience
- Strong understanding of ICI construction methods and building processes
- Ability to confidently read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
- Strong quantity takeoff and cost-estimating skills
- Experience pricing labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor scopes
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, specifications and tender requirements




- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and tight deadlines
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and construction estimating/takeoff software
- Construction-related education or equivalent field experience is an asset

THE RIGHT PERSON We’re looking for someone who understands construction, not just spreadsheets.

You should be able to look at a set of drawings and understand how the project will actually come together in the field. You take pride in accurate numbers, know when something doesn’t look right, and aren’t afraid to pick up the phone and get the information needed to build a better estimate.
