Based in Montreal for over 100 years, the McCord Stewart Museum bears witness to the history of the city — Quebec's metropolis — its influence across Canada and around the world, and the vitality, creativity, and diversity of the individuals and communities that make it up.

It amplifies their voices through the interpretation and dissemination of the remarkable heritage it safeguards: six collections comprising 3.2 million images, objects, documents, and works of art that position it as one of the leading museums in North America.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director, Administration and Finance, the position holder is responsible for managing all financial and accounting operations of the Museum and its Foundation, ensuring rigorous internal controls, and providing effective, proactive support to managers of both entities. Responsible for the quality of financial information and the effectiveness of processes, tools, and internal controls, they adhere to accounting best practices applicable to non-profit organizations and pursue continuous improvement.

Main duties

- Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting functions.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff under their responsibility, overseeing their performance, workload, well-being, and skills development.
- Prepare the annual budget and financial forecasts, financial statements, and reports in close collaboration with the Director, Administration and Finance.
- Ensure cost control and performance tracking; profitability analysis.
- Produce financial reports, internal and external, including those required for accountability to government agencies.
- Establish, maintain,



and evolve a robust framework of internal controls in line with best practices applicable to non-profit organizations.
- Identify financial and operational risks and make recommendations to management.
- Manage all payroll functions.
- Regularly provide each department with reliable financial information (reports) on their activities or projects to ensure rigorous, effective oversight.
- Coordinate preparation of year-end files and act as the main point of contact for external auditors, in collaboration with the Director.
- Evaluate existing financial processes and systems, and lead their continuous improvement, particularly in the context of evolving financial systems (including ERP).
- Ensure continuous improvement of systems and procedures under their responsibility.
- Ensure sound, proactive management of receivables and payables.
- Manage banking transactions and oversee reconciliation.
- Act as the point of contact with government bodies regarding source deductions (DAS), GST/QST rebates, and T3010 filings.
- Assist with financial control and oversight of business activities and operations.
- Represent the department in various internal meetings, including manager coordination meetings, to report on the department's activities and needs.
- Any other related duties.

Desired profile

- University degree in accounting or administration and CPA designation.
- Five (5) to 8 years of relevant experience.
- Fluency in French and good knowledge of English.
- Proficiency in MS Office software, advanced proficiency in Excel for reporting.




- Knowledge of Business Central accounting software; knowledge of a point-of-sale (POS) system is an asset.
- Experience in a role involving supervisory responsibilities, analysis, and improvement of financial processes.
