Clarity Recruitment
Brampton
Employment Type: Full time
Location: Brampton, ON (On-Site, 5 days per week)
Salary: $170,000–$175,000
Industry: Manufacturing
Position Type: Existing Vacancy
About the Chance
Our client is the Canadian arm of an owner-operated, family-held German manufacturer and global leader in drive and automation technology, supplying gearmotors, industrial gear units, inverters, and integrated automation solutions across a broad range of industrial end markets. The Canadian business runs three locations plus a distribution hub, generates well over $100M in revenue, and has grown steadily for the past decade, backed by the stability and long-term engineering investment of a global parent.
This is the most senior finance seat in Canada. Reporting to the Vice President & COO, you own the full finance function: accounting operations, treasury, tax, management reporting, and financial planning, with consolidation into the German parent and IFRS reporting at year end. You lead a team of four direct reports covering finance, IT, payroll, and estimating, and you are the primary point of contact for banks, external auditors, and government bodies.
The function is stable and well run, so this is a step into a solid foundation. The scope is broad by design: treasury and cash policy, cross-border tax obligations under a foreign-parent structure, credit and collections, budgeting, and the internal controls and process improvements that come with a mature SAP environment. Compensation includes a full benefits plan with premiums largely employer-paid, a matched pension program, and professional development support.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Own day-to-day accounting operations across AR, AP, and payroll, with a five-day month-end close
- Direct accounting methods, practices, and procedures in line with Canadian legislative and professional standards
- Resolve escalated credit and collections issues and oversee credit policy and terms
- Complete monthly and annual reporting into the German parent,
including consolidated and IFRS year-end reporting
Treasury
- Lead treasury activities including cash management, cash flow forecasting, and investment policy
- Manage bank positions, covenants, credit facilities, and borrowing decisions
- Own banking relationships and negotiate terms of credit and depository arrangements
Reporting, Planning & Analysis
- Deliver management reporting with variance analysis and commentary that leadership can act on
- Lead budgeting and forecasting, and assess capital and operational investment proposals
- Partner with leaders across operations, supply chain, engineering, and HR to interpret results and support projects
Governance, Tax & Audit
- Act as lead contact for external auditors through interim and year-end audits
- Design and improve internal controls across accounting, payroll, and reporting
- Manage Canadian tax planning and compliance, including cross-border and intercompany obligations under a foreign-parent structure (T106, NR4, FX, transfer pricing support)
Leadership
- Manage, coach, and develop four direct reports across finance, IT, payroll, and estimating
- Assess capability across the function and build a plan to strengthen it
- Identify opportunities to eliminate manual workarounds and shorten reporting cycles
- Build working relationships across all three Canadian sites, including initial visits to the Montreal and Vancouver teams; ongoing travel is minimal
What You Bring
- CPA designation, verified
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a minimum of five years as a Controller in a manufacturing environment
- Full-scope controllership experience: you have owned close, reporting,
treasury, and audit and can step in without a runway
- Experience with multi-site, consolidated finance operations
- Hands-on SAP experience, with the judgment to know when to build in the ERP and when to work in Excel
- Working understanding of IFRS and where it differs from ASPE, whether or not you are reporting under it today
- Treasury ownership: cash flow, credit terms, bank relationships, borrowings, and investment policy
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills with internal leaders, banks, auditors, and government contacts, plus a track record of coaching and developing staff
Nice to Have
- Experience reporting into a foreign parent, including intercompany transactions, T106 and NR4 filings
- Transfer pricing exposure
- Hands-on IFRS reporting in a current or recent role
- Ceridian Dayforce experience
- Experience overseeing functions outside finance, such as IT, payroll, or estimating
