Position Summary
As we grow, we’re seeking a Controller to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with regulations within the finance and accounting department. This role requires a strong understanding of financial management, exceptional leadership abilities, and the skills to communicate complex financial information effectively to both internal and external stakeholders. The Controller’s expertise is critical to maintaining accurate financial reporting and supporting strategic decision-making within the organization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving financial health and enhancing organizational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all technical accounting processes and corporate reporting
- Administers month-end, year-end closing processes and reporting
- Reconciliation of GL accounts including payables, receivables, cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets and accrued liabilities
- Provides leadership, guidance and support to enhance employee effectiveness
- Preparation and analysis of financial statements
- Review and improve daily processes and internal controls
- Works with external auditor to provide information for annual financials
- Preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures for multiple entities
- Analyze financials and provide recommendations and conclusions
- Manage fixed assets ensuring accuracy of the schedule and reconciling the fixed asset in progress account
- Manage reporting of Government Funding and Grants
Qualifications & Education
- CPA designation with 5 years’ experience managing a finance department
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Experience managing capital expenditure projects including costing and analysis
- Ability to multi task while being self-motivated
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on details
- Ability to understand business concepts and see the big picture
- Experience with Government Funding and Grants an asset
- Advance skills in Excel and accounting software
- Experience in infrastructure, transportation, or northern operations is an asset.
- Understanding of Indigenous relations and northern communities is considered an asset.
Additional Requirements
Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous and northern Manitoba applicants.
Lived experience in a Northern Manitoba community, and an understanding of the local culture, the geography,
and communication would be considered an asset.
