About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Criminal Lawyer to join our legal team in Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for representing clients in a wide range of criminal and quasi-criminal matters, providing strategic legal advice, and advocating effectively on behalf of clients throughout the criminal justice process.

This position is well suited to a lawyer who is confident in the courtroom, has strong advocacy and negotiation skills, and is committed to providing professional, ethical, and client-focused legal representation.

Key Responsibilities

- Represent clients in criminal and quasi-criminal matters before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice.
- Conduct bail hearings, first appearances, pre-trials, trials, sentencing hearings, and other court appearances.
- Advise clients regarding their legal rights, available options, and potential outcomes.
- Review disclosure and conduct legal research and case preparation.
- Develop and implement effective defence strategies.
- Negotiate resolutions with Crown counsel where appropriate.
- Prepare legal documents, submissions, applications, and correspondence.
- Conduct interviews with clients and witnesses and prepare cases for trial.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client files.
- Communicate effectively with clients, Crown counsel, court staff, and other legal professionals.
- Manage a caseload independently while meeting court deadlines and professional obligations.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct and comply with all applicable Law Society requirements.

Qualifications
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.




- Licensed to practise law in Ontario.
- Experience practising criminal law is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian criminal law and the Criminal Code.
- Excellent oral and written advocacy skills.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and legal research abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple files effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and client-service skills.
- Ability to remain calm and skilled in high-pressure situations.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is an asset, depending on court locations.

- Impaired driving / DUI-related matters

- Drug offences
- Property offences
- Fraud and financial offences
- Domestic violence matters

- Youth criminal justice matters

- Trials and preliminary inquiries
- Appeals
