Title: Custodian
Location: 24 Napoleon Road, Barrie Ontario
Hours: 2:00p.m. to 10:30p.m.
Job Purpose:
To maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the manufacturing facility and office spaces by performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and light maintenance duties in accordance with company standards. This includes office areas, restrooms, breakrooms, locker rooms, and manufacturing floor areas, while ensuring compliance with safety protocols, supporting inventory restocking, and contributing to a professional workplace environment.

- Reliable in attendance and completes tasks with attention to detail.
- Supports restocking of supplies and minor event/room setups as needed.
Key Job Functions
- Carry out assigned duties based on verbal or written instructions, cleaning schedules, or maintenance requests, and respond to shifting priorities or urgent cleaning needs in both office and plant areas.
- Perform daily and weekly cleaning of all washroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, and partitions. Restock soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Clean lunchrooms and break areas by wiping down tables, countertops, sinks, and appliances. Empty garbage and recycling bins, mop floors, and ensure supplies such as sanitizer and paper towels are replenished.
- Sweep, mop,
and scrub hard floor surfaces regularly using manual tools and powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and buffers. Spot-clean spills and maintain the cleanliness of high-traffic areas.
- Empty garbage, recycling, and compost bins from all facility zones on a daily and weekly basis. Sanitize bins as needed and ensure proper disposal procedures are followed.
- Break down and organize cardboard materials for recycling. Maintain cleanliness and order in designated collection areas, ensuring they remain explicit and accessible.
- Sort and manage recyclable materials in accordance with facility procedures. Clean and monitor recycling stations and support overall recycling and waste reduction efforts.
- Shovel snow and apply salt to walkways, ramps, and entrances. Ensure that all fire exits and building perimeters remain consistently clear of snow, ice, and debris for safety compliance.
- Remove debris such as broken skids, scrap wood, plastic, and packaging from loading docks, plant floors, and yard areas. Keep outdoor areas clean and free from obstructions or hazards.
- Monitor inventory of janitorial supplies including paper products, soap, and cleaning chemicals. Restock as needed and notify the supervisor when supply levels are low.
- Assist with minor facility maintenance tasks such as unclogging sinks, or securing loose fixtures. Promptly report any issues beyond the scope of custodial responsibility.
- Operate vacuums, auto scrubbers, buffers, and other cleaning equipment safely, following company guidelines and OSHA regulations. Also operate larger equipment such as ride-on floor sweepers, compactors, and balers. Perform light maintenance on all equipment as needed.
- Performs other related cleaning or maintenance tasks as needed to support overall facility operations.
Skills / Knowledge / Experience / Education Required
- Minimum Education: High school Diploma, or GED
- Minimum Years of Experience: Previous custodial or janitorial experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting is an asset
- Certifications Required: Valid “G” Class Ontario Driver's License with a clean driver’s abstract
- Computer Software Requirement: Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Specialized Skills:
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and perform duties efficiently and effectively
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the flexibility to adapt in a fast-paced,
multi-functional environment where priorities may change frequently
- Familiarity with safe operation of cleaning equipment and use of cleaning chemicals (training will be provided if needed)
- Willingness to complete training on forklift operation, fall arrest systems, and elevated work platforms is required
- Physically able to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions
- Comfortable working in environments with exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, dust, and cleaning chemicals; adheres to all safety protocols and PPE requirements
