Role Description
We are looking for a part-time Python / R Data & Cloud Developer to help maintain and improve our internal scientific data-processing and analysis systems. The role will involve supporting an existing Python/Flask application, Python and R data-processing scripts, cloud-based workflows, and database integrations. The main focus is to maintain and troubleshoot existing systems, automate repetitive workflows, and support the development of new internal data-analysis functions.
You will work closely with our data science team and researchers in a biotechnology and drug-discovery workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot an existing Python/Flask web application and related internal tools.
- Maintain and improve Python data-processing scripts for data cleaning, transformation, automation, and large scientific datasets.
- Maintain and modify R analysis scripts for data analysis, visualization, and report generation.
- Support cloud-based workflows, including AWS, Linux environments, and data-processing pipelines.
- Work with SQL/MySQL databases and maintain integrations between applications, databases, and analysis workflows.
- Investigate technical issues, improve code reliability, and help automate repetitive scientific data workflows.
- Support biological and experimental datasets used in biotechnology and drug discovery.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Engineering, or related field. Strong practical experience may substitute for formal education.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Working knowledge of R, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Experience with Git/GitHub and Linux environments.
- Ability to understand, maintain, and safely modify an existing codebase.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly.
- Experience with AWS, data pipelines/ETL, large-scale data processing, REST APIs, Docker, bioinformatics, NGS data, or machine-learning data preparation would be an asset.
- Previous biotechnology experience is helpful but not required.
