Position: Senior Software Engineer – Data Control Plane
Duration: 6 months
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

About the Engagement
Akkodis is seeking the services of an experienced Senior Software Engineer to support data platform, cloud engineering, and data onboarding initiatives within a leading Canadian organization.
The engagement will support a Data Control Plane Team responsible for the ingestion, management, governance, and onboarding of data into enterprise data lake and data warehouse environments. The role will focus primarily on S3-based data ingestion, cloud-native application development, data platform enablement, and operational support.
The successful consultant will work across software engineering, data platforms, and DevOps practices to develop scalable, secure, and reliable AWS solutions. The role involves hands-on development, automation, troubleshooting, technical documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Contractors will primarily support well-defined engineering and platform tasks that do not require organization-specific knowledge, allowing senior team members to focus on complex platform initiatives.
Services to be Provided
- Analyze, investigate, and recommend solutions to improve processes, operational efficiency, development workflows, and data platform capabilities.
- Support data intake, onboarding, ingestion, and management within enterprise data lake and data warehouse environments.
- Develop and maintain cloud-native applications and data solutions using Python and Java.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services using modern engineering practices.
- Work with AWS services including S3, Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, and API Gateway to support scalable and event-driven solutions.
- Support data lake and data warehouse enablement, including primarily S3-based ingestion and some PostgreSQL usage.
- Contribute to distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, security, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Support and improve CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and modern CI/CD technologies.
- Assist with infrastructure automation, provisioning, and configuration management using Terraform and Ansible.
- Implement and maintain source control practices using Git and Bitbucket, including modern branching strategies such as GitFlow and Trunk-Based Development.
- Troubleshoot production issues, investigate logs, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive solutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, reusable frameworks, and implementation templates.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies to plan, develop, test, and deliver software solutions.
- Use Jira and Confluence for planning, requirements tracking, documentation, and team collaboration.
- Translate business and technical requirements into implementation approaches and technical solutions.
- Contribute to engineering best practices, knowledge sharing, automation, and continuous improvement.
Expertise Required
- 2–5 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, application development, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong hands-on Python development experience; Python is the primary development language for this engagement.
- Experience with Java development is an asset.
- Strong AWS experience, particularly with Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, API Gateway, S3, and serverless fundamentals.
- Experience with Git and Bitbucket, including source control, branching strategies, and code collaboration.
- Experience with Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines; exposure to GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or Harness is an asset.
- Experience participating in code reviews and applying software engineering best practices.
- Understanding of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and automation concepts.
- Experience working within Scrum or Kanban teams and applying Agile methodologies.
- Experience using Jira and Confluence for planning, tracking, documentation, and collaboration.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work across front-end and back-end development tasks with a full-stack mindset.

- Experience with TDD, unit testing, integration testing, monitoring, logging, SRE, or Platform Engineering practices.
- Experience with modern web frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, Preact, or similar technologies.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
- AWS, Terraform, or related cloud certifications.

Education Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Interview Process
Two rounds (virtual):
Interview with team leads covering general experience, communication, collaboration, and team fit.
Technical interview covering Python, AWS, security, and front-end/back-end development examples.
