Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Membership & Business Development leads the development and execution of strategies to grow and retain HAVAN’s membership, increase sponsorship and non-dues revenue, strengthen member engagement, and enhance the overall member experience. Combining strategic planning with hands-on execution, the Director oversees membership recruitment and retention, sponsorship and business development, member programs and events, and volunteer-led initiatives.
As a key connector for HAVAN, the Director maintains an active presence across Metro Vancouver’s residential construction industry, building relationships with members, prospective members, sponsors, industry partners, and stakeholders. The Director identifies opportunities to connect members with HAVAN’s programs and services and is accountable for achieving annual membership recruitment, retention, and sponsorship targets while supporting the long-term relevance and sustainability of HAVAN’s membership programs and partnerships.
Responsibilities
Membership Growth, Recruitment & Retention
- Develop and execute annual membership recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies aligned with HAVAN’s strategic objectives
- Work with the CEO to establish membership growth and retention targets, membership-related revenue forecasts, and performance measures.
- Lead membership recruitment through prospect meetings, industry networking, referrals, events, presentations, and business development activities.
- Build and manage a pipeline of prospective members, converting qualified prospects into members.
- Oversee membership applications, onboarding, engagement, and renewal initiatives that strengthen member value and participation.
- Build strong relationships with members, prospective members, sponsors, and industry leaders, serving as a trusted advisor and industry connector.
Sponsorship and Business Development
- Develop and execute annual sponsorship, HAVAN360, affinity, member benefit, and other business development strategies that support HAVAN’s revenue and growth objectives.
- Strengthen relationships with sponsors, partners, industry organizations, educational institutions, and government stakeholders.
- Identify and advance new revenue opportunities that support member value, HAVAN’s strategic priorities,
and long-term financial sustainability.
Member Programs & Association Committees
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for member programs, networking opportunities, recognition initiatives, and recruitment and retention events.
- Manage key member programs, including the annual Contact Directory, affinity programs, industry trade shows including the HAVAN booth at BUILDEX, Builders’ Expo, New Member Orientations, Breakfast Networking Events, and Construction Socials.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Membership Committee and Suppliers Council, working with volunteer leaders to provide leadership and align annual work plans with HAVAN’s strategic objectives and advance membership recruitment, retention, engagement, and sponsorship initiatives.
- Liaise with the provincial (CHBA BC) and national (CHBA) levels of the organization.
Leadership, Planning & Performance
- Serve as a member of HAVAN’s leadership team, contributing to Association-wide priorities, strategic planning, and annual business planning.
- Monitor member feedback, program results, industry trends, and competing associations to identify service improvements and opportunities for membership and revenue growth.
- Prepare recommendations and reports on membership, sponsorship, engagement, and business development for the CEO, Board of Directors, Membership Committee, and Suppliers Council.
- Foster a culture of exceptional member service, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in membership development, business development, sponsorship sales, association management, account management, or a related field.
- Experience in a membership-driven non-profit or association-based organization is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated success achieving membership growth, sponsorship sales, revenue targets, or business development objectives.
- Experience developing and managing budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans.
- Experience supervising staff and/or leading volunteer committees, advisory groups, or stakeholder initiatives.
- Knowledge of the residential construction industry is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in business,
marketing, communications, association management, or a related discipline is preferred.

- Proficiency with CRM platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and reporting tools. Experience leveraging AI and other technology platforms is considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
