Director of Operations – Multi-Unit Restaurants
Location: Greater Vancouver, BC
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $90,000–$120,000 per year, based on experience
About Us
We are a locally owned and operated A&W; franchise group with 11 restaurants across Greater Vancouver. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Director of Operations to lead our restaurant management teams and drive strong, consistent results across the organization.
This is a senior multi-unit leadership position with responsibility for restaurant performance, people development, guest experience, financial results and operational standards.
The successful candidate will be highly visible in our restaurants, working directly with Restaurant Managers to identify opportunities, solve problems and develop accountable, high-performing teams.
This position reports directly to ownership.
Key ResponsibilitiesMulti-Unit Leadership
- Provide leadership, coaching and accountability to Restaurant Managers across 11 locations.
- Establish clear priorities, performance expectations and action plans for each restaurant.
- Conduct regular restaurant visits and follow up on operational, financial and people-related opportunities.
- Ensure company initiatives, policies and operating standards are implemented consistently.
- Build a culture of ownership, urgency, teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Keep ownership informed through clear reporting, practical recommendations and consistent follow-through.
Financial Performance
- Drive sales, profitability and sustainable growth across the organization.
- Review restaurant financial results and coach managers on food cost, labour, productivity, discounts, waste and other controllable expenses.
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts and restaurant-level performance plans.
- Identify performance gaps and ensure timely corrective action.
- Maintain strong cash-control, inventory-control and loss-prevention practices.
- Evaluate business trends and recommend changes to improve restaurant performance.
- Hold Restaurant Managers accountable for achieving agreed-upon financial and operational targets.
Restaurant Operations and Guest Experience
- Ensure every restaurant consistently delivers excellent food quality, cleanliness, speed of service and hospitality.
- Monitor operational scorecards, guest feedback, brand assessments and restaurant audits.
- Support Restaurant Managers in resolving guest concerns and recurring operational issues.
- Ensure compliance with A&W; standards, company policies and all applicable employment, food-safety and workplace-safety requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors and internal resources when operational, equipment or facility issues arise.
- Lead the implementation of recent programs, menu launches, technology changes and restaurant improvement initiatives.
People and Leadership Development
- Recruit, retain and develop strong Restaurant Managers and management teams.
- Build succession plans and a leadership pipeline for key restaurant positions.
- Coach managers on hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, communication and performance management.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Address performance or conduct concerns promptly, consistently and respectfully.
- Promote a positive and inclusive workplace where employees are supported and held accountable.
- Improve management stability and develop internal candidates for future leadership opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
- At least five years of progressive restaurant leadership experience, including responsibility for multiple locations.
- Strong experience in quick-service restaurants, high-volume food service or a comparable multi-location business.
- Demonstrated ability to improve sales, profitability, operational execution and team performance.
- Strong financial understanding, including budgets, profit-and-loss statements, labour management and food-cost control.
- Proven ability to coach, develop and hold Restaurant Managers accountable.
- Robust organizational, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable using reports, dashboards and performance data to guide decisions.
- Able to balance long-term planning with urgent day-to-day operational needs.
- High level of personal accountability, professionalism and integrity.
- A&W; operational experience is an asset but is not required.
- Valid British Columbia driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly between restaurant locations.
- Flexibility to visit restaurants during evenings, weekends and peak operating periods when required.
Compensation and Position Support
- Base salary of $95,000–$115,000 per year, based on experience.
- Annual performance bonus opportunity of up to 10% of base salary.

The annual bonus will be based on clearly established company and individual performance objectives, which may include sales growth, profitability, food and labour cost management, guest experience, operational standards and management-team development. - Identify problems early and ensure agreed-upon actions are completed.
- Build trusted, productive working relationships with ownership and restaurant management.
