Calgary
Who We Are
Established in 1995, 310-DUMP Waste & Recycling is a locally owned Alberta company providing waste, recycling, and site services throughout Calgary, Edmonton, and surrounding communities.
Our services include front-load waste collection, roll-off bins, junk removal, portable toilet rentals, and temporary fencing. We operate in a fast-paced environment built around safety, reliable service, open communication, personal accountability, and teamwork.
Position Summary
310-DUMP is seeking an organized, dependable, and safety-conscious Dispatcher to support our Calgary operations.
The Dispatcher is the central point of communication between drivers, Operations, Customer Service, Fleet Maintenance, and customers. This position coordinates daily routes and work orders, monitors service progress, responds to changing priorities, and ensures drivers receive clear and accurate instructions.
The successful candidate must be able to remain calm under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and make practical decisions while maintaining safe and effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
Dispatching and Route Coordination
● Review and organize daily work orders, routes, scheduled services, deliveries, exchanges, removals, and special requests.
● Dispatch work across front-load, roll-off, portable toilet, temporary fencing, and junk-removal operations.
● Assign work based on service priority, customer requirements, driver availability, vehicle and equipment capacity, location, and route efficiency.
● Help drivers obtain complete job information, including addresses, site contacts, access instructions, equipment requirements, and disposal directions.
● Monitor daily route progress and make adjustments when delays, breakdowns, customer changes, or urgent service requests arise.
● Coordinate additional work without unnecessarily disrupting existing routes or increasing overtime.
● Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout their shifts.
● Ensure incomplete, delayed, or missed services are identified, documented, communicated, and appropriately rescheduled.
● Prepare an accurate operational handover for any outstanding work at the end of the shift.
Samsara and Fleet Monitoring
● Use Samsara to monitor vehicle locations, route progress, driver activity, and operational exceptions.
● Confirm that drivers are properly signed into Samsara before operating company vehicles.
● Monitor and follow up on unassigned driving, vehicle movement, excessive idling, speeding, and other identified exceptions.
● Assist Operations with reviewing Samsara alerts,
camera events, and driver-safety information.
● Escalate serious or repeated safety concerns to management promptly.
● Maintain accurate information regarding vehicle and equipment availability.
● Coordinate with Fleet Maintenance when vehicles experience mechanical problems, breakdowns, or service interruptions.
Safety and Incident Support
● Promote compliance with company safety policies, operating procedures, and applicable transportation requirements.
● Immediately escalate accidents, injuries, property damage, unsafe conditions, spills, and serious customer complaints.
● Collect initial incident information and ensure required documentation, photographs, and driver statements are submitted.
● Support management with incident follow-up and corrective actions.
● Maintain professional communication during emergencies and provide drivers with clear instructions.
● Escalate unresolved safety concerns rather than allowing service pressure to override safety requirements.
Customer and Internal Communication
● Work closely with Customer Service to provide accurate service updates and estimated completion times.
● Communicate delays, access problems, contaminated loads, overloaded containers, damaged equipment, and unsafe site conditions.
● Respond professionally to driver, customer, and internal inquiries.
● Help resolve operational issues while protecting customer relationships and company standards.
● Maintain open and respectful communication with drivers and other departments.
● Clearly document customer commitments and operational decisions.
Documentation and Operational Control
● Enter accurate dispatch notes, driver updates, service results, and exception information into company systems.
● Verify that completed work orders contain the information required for billing and customer follow-up.
● Review outstanding and incomplete work before the end of each shift.
● Report recurring route, customer, driver, equipment, and service issues to Operations.
● Assist with operational reports and other administrative duties as required.
● Protect confidential employee, customer, and company information.
Preferred Qualifications
● Previous dispatching experience, preferably in waste management, transportation, trucking, logistics, towing, or a related industry.
● Hands-on working experience with Samsara or another GPS, telematics, or fleet-management platform.
● Previous experience supporting workplace safety, transportation safety, incident reporting, or driver compliance.
● Experience coordinating commercial drivers, vehicles, routes, and equipment.
● Knowledge of Calgary and surrounding communities.
● Waste-management or heavy-truck experience is considered an asset.
● Experience using dispatching, route-management, ERP, or work-order software is considered an asset.
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
Required Skills and Abilities
● Strong organizational and time-management skills.
● Ability to prioritize and manage multiple changing demands.
● Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
● Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
● Sound judgment and practical problem-solving ability.
● Ability to remain calm and professional during service disruptions or emergencies.
● Ability to communicate instructions confidently while treating drivers respectfully.
● Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team.
● Reliable attendance and punctuality.
● Solid commitment to safety, accountability, customer service, and operational efficiency.
