JOB SUMMARY
Stoney Health Services is seeking an Early Years Educator – Level 3 to join the Nakoda Headstart Early Learning team in Mînî Thnî.
The Early Years Educator works collaboratively with the Headstart team to provide play-based early learning experiences for children ages 3–5 in a positive, stimulating, culturally appropriate, creative, and nurturing environment.
The program supports children's development, self-awareness, self-esteem, school readiness, and connection to Stoney Nakoda culture, language, and community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and deliver culturally relevant, play-based indoor and outdoor learning activities.
- Support children's social-emotional, language, literacy, cognitive, motor, and physical development.
- Plan and facilitate daily activities, circle times, and learning routines.
- Provide individual and small-group support to children.
- Support children with eating, dressing, toileting, hygiene, and other daily routines.
- Incorporate Stoney Nakoda language, culture, traditions, and values into children's learning experiences.
- Support structured, natural, and land-based learning opportunities.
- Help identify and support children's developmental needs in collaboration with the Coordinator and interdisciplinary partners.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and nurturing learning environment.
- Build respectful and trusting relationships with parents, caregivers, and families.
- Support family participation and culturally grounded community activities.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, quality improvement, risk management, and other Stoney Health Services initiatives.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Level III Early Childhood Education Certificate (Alberta Child Care Staff Certification) – REQUIRED.
- Previous experience working with young children and families is preferred.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities or with Indigenous children and families is considered an asset.
- Current Infant and Child First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Strong understanding of child development and early learning best practices.
- Commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based practice.
- Solid communication, organization, teamwork, and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Valid Class 4 Alberta Driver's Licence and clean driving record preferred.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Welfare Check are conditions of employment.
SCHEDULE & LOCATION
- Nakoda Headstart – Mînî Thnî, Alberta
- Monday to Friday | 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | 35 hours per week
- The program follows a school-style calendar, with scheduled time away during summer vacation, spring break, and the December/Christmas break, rather than a separate vacation entitlement during the instructional year.
- A travel allowance is available for eligible employees who live outside Mînî Thnî.
