Role Description We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to help design and support the industrial power supply systems that keep critical operations running.
In this role, you will contribute to the development, customization, manufacturing, testing, and ongoing support of power rectifiers, battery charging systems, DC power equipment, and power-distribution assemblies. Our equipment supports demanding industrial, rail, utility, and critical-infrastructure applications, including nuclear facilities.
Reporting to the Product Development Manager, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team spanning Sales, Mechanical Design, Power Electronics, Production, Quality, Purchasing, Testing, and Service. This is an chance to take ownership of real-world electrical designs and see them through from customer requirements and drawings to manufacturing, testing, and delivery.
What You’ll Do
· Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, interconnection drawings, terminal plans, panel layouts,
and manufacturing documentation.
· Design and customize electrical circuits and assemblies for rectifiers, battery chargers, control panels, battery systems, DC distribution, and related power equipment.
· Translate customer specifications, drawings, tender documents, and applicable standards into practical, manufacturable equipment designs.
· Support technical quotations, compliance matrices, customer clarifications, and project order reviews.
· Select electrical components and maintain accurate bills of materials, specifications, approved alternatives, and engineering change records.
· Partner with mechanical and power-electronics designers to coordinate enclosure layouts, wiring access, thermal considerations, interfaces, and manufacturability.
· Support production, factory testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, technical investigations, and corrective actions.
· Contribute to design reviews, product standardization, quality improvements, cost-reduction activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Help ensure equipment meets applicable safety, quality, technical, and customer requirements.
What You Bring
· A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
· Experience designing or supporting industrial electrical equipment, control panels, DC power systems, battery chargers, rectifiers, switchgear, or power-distribution equipment.
· Experience with electrical CAD tools and engineering document-control processes.
· Strong capability in preparing schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of materials.
· Familiarity with industrial electrical components, including breakers, fuses, relays, contactors, transformers, terminal blocks, meters, switches, and control devices.
· The ability to read customer specifications and develop safe, reliable, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
· Strong communication, technical documentation, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
· P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario.
· Experience with UPS systems, industrial battery systems, DC distribution, or stationary power applications.
· Knowledge of grounding, electrical protection, fault ratings, and electrical safety.
· Experience in rail, utility, transportation, nuclear, or another regulated or safety-critical industry.
· Exposure to factory acceptance testing, commissioning, field service, or technical customer support.
