Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Designer to join our team. The role involves developing electrical system designs and producing detailed engineering drawings and deliverables for a variety of oil and gas projects. The position is based in our Calgary office, with occasional site visits to Long Lake (near Fort McMurray) as required.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

- Develop electrical design deliverables and perform related engineering analyses.

- Participate in engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating activities.

- Identify and communicate technical issues related to electrical design with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

- Support procurement activities, including preparation of material requisitions and technical bid evaluations.

- Work effectively within a multi-discipline project environment.

- Perform power system studies using ETAP or SKM software.

- Carry out protective relay coordination studies and develop relay settings.

- Conduct electrical engineering calculations, including load analysis, equipment sizing, voltage drop, motor starting studies, neutral grounding resistor (NGR) sizing, and power factor correction.





- Design substation layouts, grounding systems, electrical equipment layouts, MV/LV motor control schematics, control panel arrangements, cable schedules, and cable tray layouts.

- Prepare area classification drawings in accordance with applicable standards.

- Review P&IDs; and mechanical equipment load lists to extract relevant electrical design data.

- Develop electrical deliverables for electric heat tracing systems.

- Review vendor drawings and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements.

- Prepare material take-offs (MTO) and estimate quantities.

- Report to the Electrical Lead or Project Lead as assigned.

Qualifications

- Completion of a two-year diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or a three- to four-year apprenticeship program in a related discipline.

- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Electrical Designer within the oil and gas industry.

- Solid knowledge of electrical design tools, modelling software, and engineering applications.

- Ability to make well-defined, day-to-day technical decisions aligned with project requirements.

- Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering project environments.
