Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to become part of our growing team. This is primarily an office-based role with occasional travel to project and construction sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify electrical design deliverables, including layouts, grounding systems, and engineering calculations.
- Develop and prepare RFQ and purchase order documentation for high-voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), 600V MCCs, UPS systems, and transformers.
- Conduct technical evaluations of vendor proposals and review supplier drawings for compliance and approval.
- Create and maintain single-line diagrams for low-, medium-, and high-voltage power systems, including MV/LV motor control and VFD applications.
- Support electrical procurement activities by preparing and reviewing material requisitions (MRs), technical bid evaluations (TBEs), and related engineering documentation.
- Perform electrical load calculations and determine appropriate equipment sizing.
- Develop and maintain electrical load schedules and equipment lists.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), equipment inspections, and Integrated Factory Acceptance Tests (IFAT) for substations.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with company standards, client specifications, and applicable industry regulations.
- Review and assess electrical equipment documentation, including material requisitions and vendor-supplied technical information.
- Provide field engineering support during construction and commissioning activities when required.
- Perform system load flow studies using ETAP and support hazardous area classification design activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide electrical engineering expertise across projects.
- Design and review single-line diagrams and grounding systems.
- Lead and support Electrical Heat Tracing (EHT) design activities.
- Identify and implement value engineering opportunities to optimize electrical system designs.
- Select and specify electrical equipment and materials suitable for project requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10–15 years of electrical engineering and design experience; field experience is considered an asset.
- Experience within the oil and gas industry is preferred, particularly with SAGD facilities.
Experience in mining, pipelines, gas processing, gas compression, refining, or upgrading projects will also be considered.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA and authorized to authenticate electrical engineering documents and drawings.
- Strong background in low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems;
experience with high-voltage systems is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience with electrical protection systems, MCC facilities, and power distribution projects.
- Technical expertise in motor control systems, VFDs, electrical heat tracing (EHT), lighting, grounding, and ETAP modeling.
- Proven ability to develop detailed electrical engineering designs and specifications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a team workplace while also managing tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without requiring sponsorship from COOEC Canada.
