Environmental / Regulatory Advisor II Location: Type: 1-year contract We are seeking an Environmental / Regulatory Advisor II to support an Environment and Regulatory team at a large industrial refining facility in Edmonton, Alberta. This role is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance with regulatory requirements and approvals, providing technical guidance to operations teams, and supporting the implementation of environmental management systems and environmental performance initiatives. Provide technical support on environmental issues, regulatory compliance, and applicable legislation.
Support QA/QC review of environmental and regulatory compliance documentation. Develop, implement, and improve environmental standards, programs, systems, guidelines, and tools. Support environmental performance reporting and ensure timely regulatory submissions.
Review new and revised legislation and assess regulatory impacts. Lead environmental improvement projects and compliance initiatives. Coordinate and track environmental permits, approvals, and regulatory requirements.
Support environmental protection and compliance activities related to: Water management Waste management Air emissions and air quality programs Ecology, biodiversity, and vegetation management Monitor compliance with environmental approvals and regulatory commitments. Conduct inspections, assessments, audits, and compliance reviews. Work with contractors and project teams to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into project planning and execution.
Update environmental manuals, procedures, and documentation as required. Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (Environmental focus), Natural Resources, or related discipline.
~5-10 years of environmental and regulatory experience within Alberta's oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, pipeline, or industrial sectors. ~ Experience supporting environmental compliance programs and regulatory reporting. ~ Knowledge of environmental legislation, approvals, permits, and compliance requirements in Alberta. ~ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and data management tools. ~ Valid Class 5 Driver's License and comfortable operating a pickup truck.
Experience with AER, APEA/EPEA, Alberta Water Act, permitting processes, and regulatory approvals.
Experience in refining, petrochemical, oil sands, pipeline, or other heavy industrial operations. Knowledge of air emissions, water management, waste management, spill response, and environmental monitoring programs.
Experience working with environmental management systems and compliance frameworks. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment. The successful candidate will have a robust background in Alberta environmental regulations and compliance, experience supporting industrial operations, and the ability to work collaboratively with operations teams, contractors, regulators, and stakeholders to maintain environmental performance and regulatory compliance.
