Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.
We are currently seeking an Event Photographer to join our Creative team. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Creative Team, the incumbent will provide photography coverage of Art Gallery of Ontario events and programs. Shifts are scheduled primarily after 5 pm and on weekends.
The rate of pay for this position is $27.38 - $34.20 per hour
What is this position responsible for?
- Photographic documentation of events and programs including tours, performances, exhibition openings, receptions, functions, galas, parties, photo booths and other activities; proactively set up groups and individuals to establish shots; be available primarily after 5pm and on weekends.
- Performs photography and post-production work in digital format. Photography includes, but is not limited to: lighting, location set up and other onsite duties. Post-production includes, but is not limited to: colour correcting,
critical editing for the delivery of concise packages of imagery that adhere to the standards set out by the AGO Photo Studio. Photographs must be suitable for publications and promotional media applications.
- Tests and checks photography, lighting and other equipment, to ensure it is in working order prior to assignment and returns all equipment to the proper storage location in Photo Studio.
- Ensures that assignments are carried out to specification and report any equipment malfunctions and resolutions to problems related to assignments.
- Edits images and places selects in the assigned folder for archival recording and storage.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
What are we looking for?
- Specialized knowledge and prior experience in photographing events involving people; the ability to adapt to changes and current features of locations.
- The ability to communicate well with a variety of program/activity organizers in order to meet their needs; having a sensitivity to performers and artists; being personable and having the ability to read a room; having the ability to organize people to get great shots.
- Minimum 2 years of professional digital event photography experience.
- Working knowledge of creative and imaginative photographic techniques.
- Advanced working knowledge of appropriate computer systems and software including but not limited to: Mac OS, Adobe CS,
Photoshop, Capture One.
- Maintains awareness of current issues and technologies in photography.
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
- Reliable, with good time management skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to be flexible and work well independently as well as part of a small team.
