Overview

Nirvana Waterworks is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial records and reporting.

The Financial Accountant will work closely with the Financial Coordinator and play a key role in supporting month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement preparation, inventory accounting, and year-end activities. This position is best suited for a technically strong accountant who enjoys working with financial data, maintaining accurate records, improving accounting processes, and leveraging technology to provide meaningful financial insights.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in modern ERP systems and Power BI environments, understands how financial data supports operational decision-making, and can confidently partner with the Financial Controller to provide accurate and actionable business information.

The Financial Accountant serves as the technical accounting resource within the finance department and collaborates closely with the Financial Coordinator to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information. Role Purpose The Financial Accountant owns the company’s technical accounting functions, including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, financial statement preparation, inventory accounting support, and year-end activities.

This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong accounting controls, and timely financial information that supports effective business decisions.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Month-End Close

- Complete the full month-end close process accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and adjusting entries.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances as required.
- Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and properly documented.
- Support the Financial Controller with financial analysis and reporting requirements.

Financial Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare reporting packages and analysis to support management decision-making.
- Utilize Power BI to analyze financial performance, trends, and key business metrics.
- Support the maintenance and validation of financial data used in Power BI dashboards and reporting.
- Partner with the Financial Controller to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency across all financial reporting platforms.




- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes and data accessibility.

Account Reconciliations
- Maintain all balance sheet reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile bank accounts and key general ledger accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Ensure account balances are accurate, supported, and audit-ready.

Year-End & Audit Support
- Coordinate year-end accounting activities and closing procedures.
- Prepare audit working papers and supporting schedules.
- Work closely with external accountants and auditors during annual reviews and audits.
- Ensure accounting records remain organized and audit-ready throughout the year.
- Support regulatory and compliance requirements as needed.

Inventory & Fixed Asset Accounting
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Support inventory accounting and cost-of-goods-sold reconciliations.
- Assist with inventory-related analysis and reconciliations.
- Ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded and reflected within the financial statements.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures and efficiencies.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal controls.
- Assist with accounting policy and procedure documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department.
- Promote consistency, accuracy, and accountability across accounting processes.

QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or CPA candidate is preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience in inventory accounting and cost-of-goods-sold environments is considered an asset.

Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency with ERP and accounting systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience with Power BI is required.
- Ability to validate, analyze, and interpret financial data within reporting and business intelligence tools.
- Experience with Sage, Business Central, Dynamics, or similar accounting systems is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations,



and financial reporting best practices.

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation or active CPA candidate.
- Experience in distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or inventory-based businesses.
- Experience supporting Power BI reporting and dashboard development.
- Experience with inventory accounting and cost-of-goods-sold reconciliations.
- Experience working within a growing, entrepreneurial organization.

What This Role Does Not Include This role focuses on technical accounting and financial reporting and does not have primary responsibility for:

- Daily accounts payable processing
- Daily accounts receivable processing
- Payroll administration
- Approval workflows
- Budget preparation and forecasting
- Business intelligence development or report-building projects
- General operational administration

Success in This Role Looks Like
- Month-end close is completed accurately and on schedule.
- Balance sheet reconciliations are current, complete, and fully supported.
- Financial statements are reliable, accurate, and trusted by management.
- Year-end files are organized and audit-ready with minimal adjustments required.
- Financial data used in Power BI dashboards and management reports is accurate and timely.
- Accounting processes and internal controls continue to improve over time.
- The Financial Controller receives clear, reliable financial information to support business decisions.
- Strong collaboration exists between the Financial Accountant and Financial Coordinator, creating an efficient and high-performing finance function.
