The Position:
The Financial Analyst provides financial support to a portfolio of departments and programs across the organization, serving as a key financial liaison to operational leaders, scientists, program directors, and managers. The role is responsible for the preparation and analysis of financial reporting, budgeting support, balance sheet reconciliations, grant and government reporting, audit working papers,
invoicing, account management, and financial analysis to support informed decision-making.
The Financial
Analyst ensures financial information is accurate, timely, compliant, and audit-ready while supporting organizational and research-related financial activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the lead sheets and financial statements on Meditech to support the working papers
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and other financial information to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Manage foundation, research and other external funding agencies grants and financial activities, including invoicing, funder reporting, account monitoring, and grant close-out processes.
- Review financial transactions, prepare journal entries, and perform account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Assist leaders, scientists, program directors, and managers with budget preparation, financial planning, and ongoing monitoring of financial performance.
- Prepare financial information required for audits, government reporting, granting agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Support the maintenance, enhancement, and implementation of financial systems, reporting tools,
and process improvements.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders by providing accurate, timely, and responsive financial support.
- Participate in special projects, quality improvement initiatives, and other departmental activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices and information system operation as required through a University graduation in Business Administration or Commerce
- CPA or working towards CPA designation
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years financial experience including accounting, budgeting and financial analysis in a computerized environment.
- Preparation of complex financial statements
- Knowledge of Hospital financial accounting requirements and reporting structure would be an asset
- Experience planning and developing reporting relying on large data set or data repositories
Skills
- Ability to work independently on complex and diversified projects with general guidance
- Analytical, planning and organizational skills and the ability to identify problems and exercise sound judgement in recommending solutions
- Excellent communications, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills
- Intermediate/ Advanced Microsoft products
- Ability to work and understand the information systems and data flows.
