Job Overview

Haber's technology creates value when it fits the reality of a specific mill - its unit operations, its variability, its operators, its data, its constraints. That fit has to be lived on the floor. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you go and live inside a customer's mill for two-week blocks at a time during a discovery, trial or a deployment. You learn how the process actually runs, map it properly, run the trial to a measurable result.

We are looking for someone who has spent their working life solving mill problems day to day. If you have commissioned equipment on a live line, run a chemical or process trial in someone else's plant, or been the outside expert standing in a control room, you already know most of this job. This is the domain half of the role, not the coding half. You will not build the product, you will be the reason it works at each mill. Your job is to make the technology fit the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery at Customer Mills

- Spend two-week blocks on site during trials and deployments, in the control room, on the floor, in shift handovers, alongside process engineers and operators. Earn their trust and learn their process cold.
- Build relationships. Troubleshoot, adjust, and keep things moving when reality diverges from the plan.

Own the Trials

- Run trials at customer mills to a measurable, agreed result - defining the baseline, the success criteria, the sampling and measurement plan, and the conditions under which the trial is valid.
- Diagnose why a trial underperforms, in process terms, and say so plainly.

Customer Success and Adoption

- Drive adoption after go-live: make sure operators and process engineers actually use what has been installed,



and that it holds up across shifts and grade changes.
- Own the day-to-day technical relationship at the mill and be the person the customer calls.
- Track and report the outcome the customer was promised — savings, yield, quality, water and energy in the mill's own terms.

Close the Loop with the Team in India
- Work the data that describes the process. Historian tags, DCS and PLC signals, lab and batch results. Know what bad data looks like before it reaches a model.
- Process maps, tag dictionaries, and a transparent statement of what is different about this mill.
- Send structured field input back to our product, data and engineering teams in Pune. Requirements, edge cases, constraints and validated metrics.

Qualifications

- Mill-floor process experience. 2–8 years working inside operating pulp, paper, tissue or board, or embedded in them on behalf of an equipment, chemical, automation supplier. What matters is time on the floor.
- You solve mill problems. You have chased a quality deviation to its cause, commissioned equipment on a live line, or owned a process improvement through to a number. You can talk about a specific upset you diagnosed and what you changed.
- Trials on live equipment. You have designed or run a trial in an operating plant - setting the baseline, the success criteria and the measurement plan, and then defending the result to the plant's own people using their own numbers.
- Language. Fluent in French and English. You build trust with operators and engineers on the floor in French, and work seamlessly with Haber's team in English.
- Location and travel. Based in Québec, Montréal region preferred.

Willing and able to spend 2 week blocks on site at customer mills.
- Engineering degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Paper Science or a related discipline.
