Garment Machine Mechanic

Part Time Position (daily maximum 6 hrs per day) – Freed and Freed Manufacturing The Company:

The Position

Freed & Freed is in search of an Industrial Sewing Machine Mechanic to join our growing team at our fast-paced manufacturing facility. Reporting directly to Senior Management, the Industrial Sewing Machine Mechanic is responsible for conducting equipment repair and preventive maintenance to machinery. The ideal candidate will have experience in repairing Juki, Pfaff, and Brother machines.

Objectives & Responsibilities

- Install, set up, adjust, and maintain sewing and production machinery.
- Diagnose machine breakdowns and determine the cause of mechanical problems.
- Repair and replace worn, damaged, or defective machine parts.
- Adjust machine timing, alignment, and operating settings as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance to reduce equipment breakdowns and production downtime.
- Lubricate, clean, and maintain machinery, equipment, and tools.
- Identify abnormal noise, vibration, overheating, or other signs of equipment problems.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from Supervisors and/or the Director of Production.
- Communicate with the Director of Production and Supervisors regarding equipment breakdowns, downtime, and maintenance issues that may affect production.
- Use hand tools, power tools, electrical meters,



and other maintenance equipment safely and responsibly.
- Read and understand basic mechanical drawings, machinery manuals, and equipment instructions.
- Maintain adequate parts, supplies, and equipment required for the Production and Maintenance departments.
- Follow all applicable safety regulations and maintain clean, safe, and orderly work areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Technical Skills

- Experience installing and setting up sewing and production machines.
- Ability to diagnose machine breakdowns and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Ability to repair and replace worn or damaged parts.
- Ability to adjust machine timing and alignment.
- Knowledge of machinery lubrication and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings and machine manuals.
- Ability to identify abnormal noise, vibration, overheating, and other signs of equipment problems.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance to reduce equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.

Garment-Machine Knowledge Experience with the following types of equipment is considered an asset:

- Single-needle sewing machines
- Overlock/serger machines
- Flatlock machines
- Buttonhole machines
- Button-attaching machines
- Embroidery machines
- Cutting machines
- Pressing/ironing equipment
- Fusing machines
- Steam and compressed-air equipment

Electrical Knowledge Basic electrical knowledge and troubleshooting experience is considered an asset, including:

- Motors
- Switches and sensors
- Relays
- Basic wiring
- Troubleshooting electrical faults

Qualifications & Personal Attributes

- 2–3 years of related maintenance, mechanical, or industrial experience.




- Experience working with sewing and garment-production machinery is strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a commitment to maintaining a high standard of work.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple maintenance requests, and respond appropriately to production needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with Supervisors, Production staff, and management.
- Ability to assess equipment issues, evaluate options, and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to operate tools, machinery, and equipment safely and responsibly.
- A certificate in a building trade, mechanical trade, or related field, or equivalent experience, is considered an asset.
- Willingness and ability to learn new machinery, equipment, and maintenance procedures.

Job Specifics: · Schedule: Part-time hours maximum 6 hrs per day.
