The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive General Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for bank reconciliations, business unit financial reporting, fixed asset accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and administrative support. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process daily cash receipts and cash clearing activities, prepare weekly cash reports, monitor cash balances, and perform monthly bank reconciliation and investigations.
- Prepare and file government regulatory returns such as GST/PST returns and CRA remittances.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, depreciation, subledger reconciliations, and related analysis.
- Prepare the monthly reporting package for the Fleet department, analyze recoveries and costs, and provide commentary on operating results. Investigate variances against expected results and coordinate resolutions with the Fleet department and other stakeholders.
- Maintain Fleet project set up and perform intercompany billings to projects to recover fleet costs.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including accruals, amortization, general ledger account reconciliations, intercompany balance reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly working papers and analyze account balances. Ensure financial information is accurate and compliant with accounting standards.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation and respond to external audit requests. Support corporate tax return preparation.
- Maintain vendor master data, including vendor setup, vendor maintenance, and verification, while ensuring supporting documentation and internal controls are maintained.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Pursuing a CPA designation, is an asset.
- Progressive accounting experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding of ASPE, full-cycle accounting, and month-end close processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft office products.
- Experience with ERP systems (Vista experience considered an asset).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid verbal and written communication abilities.
