About the Role

We are seeking a GIS Data Lead to support spatial analysis and the development of data-informed insights related to community climate resilience.

The successful candidate will combine solid technical GIS capabilities with an ability to interpret data in a community context. The role will involve working with open datasets, locally collected information, and community knowledge to develop useful spatial analyses and visualizations.

This position is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys working at the intersection of GIS, data analysis, climate resilience, and community knowledge .

Key Responsibilities

- Lead GIS-related analysis and data management activities.
- Identify, collect, clean, organize, and integrate relevant spatial datasets.
- Work with open government, census, geographic, demographic, environmental, and community datasets.
- Develop spatial analyses to identify patterns, gaps, vulnerabilities, and community assets.
- Develop and maintain GIS layers and datasets.
- Produce clear, accessible maps and visualizations for internal and stakeholder use.
- Incorporate locally collected information and community knowledge into spatial analysis where appropriate.
- Assess data quality, limitations, gaps, and inconsistencies.
- Translate GIS findings into concise insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with community engagement and research team members to validate findings.
- Document data sources, assumptions, methodologies, and limitations.




- Support identification and prioritization of potential locations for future pilot activities.
- Participate in weekly project meetings and communicate progress and data-related requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in GIS, spatial analysis, geographic data management, or a related discipline.
- Strong proficiency with GIS software such as:
- ArcGIS Pro
- ArcGIS Online
- QGIS
- or equivalent platforms.
- Experience working with spatial datasets and open government data.
- Strong data cleaning, organization, and analysis skills.
- Ability to work with demographic and geographic datasets.
- Experience creating professional maps and data visualizations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to explain technical GIS findings to non-technical audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to independently manage datasets and deliverables.

Assets
- Experience with climate vulnerability, environmental, urban, or public-health GIS.
- Experience working with Toronto Open Data or other municipal datasets.
- Experience integrating qualitative/community data with GIS.
- Experience with census data and demographic analysis.
- Knowledge of spatial statistics or advanced spatial analysis.
- Experience with Python, R, SQL, or other data-analysis tools.
- Experience with participatory GIS or citizen science.
- Experience working with nonprofit or community organizations.
