Role Description The Safety Coordinator is a contract, on-site role based in Fort McMurray, AB, responsible for supporting a secure work workplace across all project activities. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring job sites for compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, conducting safety inspections and audits, and facilitating safety meetings and toolbox talks. The role involves delivering safety training, assisting with risk assessments and job hazard analyses, and maintaining safety documentation and reporting.
The Safety
Coordinator will investigate incidents and near-misses,
recommend corrective actions, and collaborate with supervisors, workers, and clients to promote a strong safety culture aligned with Canoco Group standards.
Qualifications
- Solid foundation in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS), including hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in Safety Training, including delivering orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted safety programs.
- Demonstrated ability in Accident Investigation, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OHS certificate/diploma, NCSO, CRSP or equivalent) are preferred. H2S alive, CSO, Fall Pro, LSE, First Aid.
- Experience in industrial, energy, or construction environments, ideally in turnaround or maintenance projects.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse teams and promote safety culture.
- Ability to work in office in Fort McMurray, AB, and adhere to client site requirements, including any pre-access checks.
