POSITION OVERVIEW The Housing Engagement Worker plays a key role within the Supportive Rapid Rehousing for Seniors Program. This position focuses on providing direct, compassionate support to residents as they transition toward stability and permanent housing. The role includes assisting with day-to-day operations within the residence, promoting community engagement, and supporting residents with life skills and daily living activities such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and maintaining common areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct support and encouragement to residents, assisting them in navigating challenges and connecting with community resources as needed.
- Promote program participation, community involvement, and adherence to house expectations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of resident interactions, progress, and outcomes in accordance with agency standards.
- Participate in meal planning and preparation for communal meals when required.
- Contribute to the upkeep of the residence through daily cleaning, laundry, and general maintenance tasks.
- Assist with outdoor maintenance, including snow shoveling, salting, and basic garden care.
- Collaborate with team members, community organizations, and service providers to ensure wraparound supports for residents.
- Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, and program events as scheduled.
- Complete and maintain current certifications in CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
- Demonstrate understanding and application of trauma-informed and client-centered approaches.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Diploma or Certificate in Social Services, Human Services, or Personal Support Work. Equivalent experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in social services, housing support, case management, or a related field. Experience working with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness is an asset.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with the capacity to build trust and rapport. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team-oriented team.
- Knowledge:
Understanding of homelessness, housing instability, and the social determinants of health. Familiarity with community-based services and social support systems.
- Personal Attributes: Compassionate, patient, and adaptable. Demonstrates empathy, professionalism, and discretion in sensitive situations. Physically capable of performing general cleaning duties and lifting up to 30 lbs. Flexible scheduling availability, including evenings, weekends, and overnights as needed.

- Hours of work, scheduling, and breaks will comply with ESA standards, including required rest periods and meal breaks.
- Overtime pay or time off in lieu will be provided in accordance with the ESA when weekly hours exceed 44.
- Employees are entitled to public holiday pay, vacation entitlement, and vacation pay as outlined under the ESA.
- Employment may be terminated only in accordance with the ESA and CONTACT’s employment policies.
