TechElectric Automation is looking for an experienced Industrial Electrical Estimator to join our team.
We are looking for a licensed 309A electrician with a strong industrial background who also has previous estimating, project coordination or similar office-side experience.
This is not a position for someone who has only estimated commercial construction work. We want someone who understands industrial electrical work from the field and can apply that experience to estimating, purchasing and preparing projects for our crews.
The Position The Industrial Electrical Estimator will work closely with our Project Managers and field team to help develop quotations and prepare awarded projects for construction.
Our Project Managers will continue to handle most customer relationships, initial project development, technical concepts and final quote review. The estimator will complete much of the front-end work required to move opportunities through the estimating process and prepare projects for the field.
Responsibilities will include
- Completing electrical material takeoffs
- Developing labour estimates
- Obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Material pricing and supplier follow-up
- Preparing estimates using our existing Excel-based estimating system
- Drafting scopes of work, clarifications and exclusions
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and customer information
- Identifying material requirements and lead times
- Purchasing material following project award
- Tracking material and coordinating deliveries
- Preparing upcoming projects for field crews
- Assisting with manpower requirements and proposed project start dates
- Preparing change-order pricing
- Assisting with job costing
- Occasional site visits to review upcoming work
Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Ontario 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician licence
- 10+ years of electrical experience
- Strong industrial electrical installation experience
- Previous electrical estimating, project coordination or similar office/project experience
- Experience working directly with electrical suppliers and obtaining pricing
- Strong understanding of industrial feeders, distribution, panels, transformers, motors, VFDs, control wiring and machinery
- Ability to read electrical drawings, specifications and schematics
- Valuable working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
- Valid driver's licence
Assets:
- SharePoint experience
- AutoCAD experience
- Industrial service and troubleshooting experience
- Purchasing and material-coordination experience
- Experience preparing scopes of work and project quotations
PLC programming experience is not required.
Office and Field Work
This is primarily an office-based estimating position,
not a 50/50 electrician/estimator role.
However, we want someone who is still comfortable working in an industrial environment and staying connected to the field.
The successful candidate may occasionally assist with:
- Site visits
- Industrial troubleshooting
- Smaller electrical installations
- Commissioning and service work
- After-hours service when required
Compensation and Schedule
- $45–$52 per hour, depending on experience
- Full-time, permanent position
- 40-hour work week
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime paid in accordance with TechElectric's regular overtime structure
- Additional overtime opportunities may arise through after-hours service or field support

Opportunity for Growth The primary focus of this position is estimating and project preparation. As the successful candidate becomes familiar with TechElectric, our customers and our systems, there may be opportunities to take responsibility for smaller projects and become involved in additional project-management activities.
Project management may become a future career path for the right person, but it is not a requirement or the primary purpose of this position.
Pay: $45.00-$52.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
