Intermediate Interior Designer / Project Manager - Toronto

Location: Toronto / GTA (with regular travel to project sites)

Employment Type: Part-Time Position (Up to 20 Hours per Week / 2 Days On-Site) with a Clear Path to a Full-Time Role and Long-Term Career Growth

We are a collaborative, design-focused architecture and interiors firm specializing in high-end residential projects. We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Interior Designer / Project Manager to work across all phases of our projects, from concept and design development through documentation, consultant coordination, construction, and installation.

Position Summary The Intermediate Interior Designer / Project Manager will play a key role in the design and execution of multiple high-end residential projects. This is a design-focused position with significant project management and construction coordination responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has a strong interior design sensibility combined with practical experience working with contractors, consultants, vendors, and trades. This individual should be comfortable developing and documenting design concepts while also coordinating the many moving pieces required to successfully carry a project through construction.

Responsibilities

Concept & Interior Design

- Collaborate with the Principals and design team to develop interior concepts through space planning, sketching, material selection, precedent imagery, rendering, and presentations.
- Develop and refine finish palettes, architectural details, millwork, lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, furniture, and other interior elements.
- Source and coordinate materials, finishes, samples, fixtures, furniture, lighting, and specialty items with vendors and showrooms.
- Translate approved concepts into thoughtful, cohesive, and buildable design solutions.

Design Development & Documentation
- Prepare and develop drawing packages including plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, sections, millwork details, custom furniture details, and construction documentation
- Coordinate FF&E;, architectural finishes, plumbing, hardware, lighting, and millwork across drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation
- Maintain design intent and accuracy as projects progress from design development through construction




- Coordinate drawings and design information with relevant consultant documentation

Project Management & Consultant Coordination
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, design milestones, and outstanding action items across multiple projects
- Coordinate with architect or records, contractors, trades, vendors, fabricators, and consultants including structural, MEP, landscape, lighting, AV, kitchen, and other specialties
- Lead and participate in client, consultant, contractor, and internal project meetings.
- Maintain transparent communication and follow-up between clients, the design team, consultants, contractors, and vendors
- Proactively identify coordination issues and work with the project team to resolve them
- Communicate regularly with the Principals regarding project progress, decisions, schedules, and potential challenges

Construction Administration
- Participate in regular site meetings and site reviews throughout construction
- Respond to contractor and vendor questions and provide design clarifications as required
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, material samples, and mock-ups for conformance with design intent
- Prepare site instructions, sketches, and supplemental design information as required
- Monitor construction progress and identify discrepancies between site conditions, construction documents, and approved design intent
- Work directly with contractors and consultants to resolve design and construction issues efficiently
- Coordinate deficiencies and outstanding items through construction, installation, and project completion

Team & Studio Support
- Support and provide design guidance to junior team members as required
- Maintain organized project documentation, correspondence, meeting notes, and records
- Assist with project budgets, approvals, procurement coordination, and final installations as required

Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture and/or Architecture
- Approximately 4–5 years of professional interior design or architectural experience, with a strong preference for high-end residential experience




- Strong design sensibility and demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated residential interiors
- Experience working across multiple project phases, from concept and design development through construction documentation and construction administration
- Strong understanding of residential construction, architectural detailing, millwork, finishes, lighting, plumbing, and installation
- Proven experience coordinating directly with contractors, trades, vendors, fabricators, and external consultants
- Experience reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and construction details
- Experience attending construction meetings and conducting site reviews
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D drafting and construction documentation
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong proficiency in 3D modelling and rendering software experience (Rhino is an asset)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership of project responsibilities
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely within a small design team

Travel Requirements

This position requires regular travel to project sites, vendor showrooms, and meetings throughout Toronto and the GTA. A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle are required.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a strong designer who also understands how projects are actually built. You are equally comfortable developing a thoughtful interior concept, producing and coordinating detailed drawings, reviewing a shop drawing, participating in a construction meeting, and working directly with contractors and consultants to resolve issues on site.

You are proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of your work. You enjoy balancing design excellence with project management and construction responsibilities and want to grow within a collaborative boutique studio where you will have meaningful involvement in projects from initial concept through final installation.
