Heeney Capital Resource Partners
Heeney Capital Resource Partners (“HCRP”) is a leading U.S.-based vertically integrated mining company focused on high-quality opportunities across the global metals and materials value chain.
Headquartered in New York, HCRP invests across precious metals, base metals, and critical metals and materials, with a mandate spanning both primary mining operations and downstream processing, refining, and related infrastructure. The firm pursues opportunities across a broad range of stages and transaction types, including acquisitions, growth investments, recapitalizations, special situations, and strategic partnerships.
HCRP operates as an active owner, working closely with management and technical teams on strategy, capital allocation, financing, operational improvement, and value creation. The firm’s portfolio footprint stretches across five continents.
The Opportunity
HCRP is seeking an exceptional Investment Associate to join its Toronto investment team.
This is a highly entrepreneurial role with significant responsibility from the outset. The successful candidate will work directly with senior investment professionals across recent investment opportunities, live transactions, and portfolio companies, with exposure to the full investment lifecycle from initial evaluation and diligence through structuring, execution, financing, and post-investment value creation.
The environment is high-octane, quick-paced, and highly accountable. HCRP operates with lean deal teams, giving Investment Associates substantial exposure to senior decision-makers, management teams, technical professionals, counterparties, and operating businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate new investment opportunities and develop independent views on businesses, assets, commodities, jurisdictions, and transaction structures.
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, valuation analyses, financing structures, and investment return scenarios.
- Support the diligence, structuring, negotiation, financing, and execution of transactions.
- Assess mining and processing assets through review of technical reports, feasibility studies, operating plans, resource and reserve statements, capital programs, and processing assumptions.
- Work closely with HCRP’s internal technical team to translate geological, engineering, metallurgical, and operating information into investment conclusions.
- Prepare investment committee materials and clearly articulate investment theses, key risks, downside protection, valuation, and return potential.
- Support the ongoing management of portfolio companies, including budgeting, strategic planning, capital allocation, financing, operational performance, and growth initiatives.
- Coordinate financial, technical, legal, commercial, and operational workstreams across multiple concurrent transactions.
- Build relationships with management teams, operating partners, advisors, lenders, strategic counterparties, and other industry participants.
- Travel internationally to portfolio companies, operating sites, prospective investments,
and transaction counterparties as required.
Candidate Profile
Preferred candidates will have
- 3–5+ years of investment banking experience, ideally with meaningful exposure to M&A;, metals & mining, natural resources, industrials, or related sectors.
- Exceptional financial modelling, valuation, accounting, and analytical skills.
- Strong transaction experience and the ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight timelines.
- Sound commercial judgment and the ability to form independent investment views.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in investing, commodities, capital markets, and capital allocation.
- High attention to detail, strong work ethic, and an ownership mentality.
- The ability to operate effectively in a lean, demanding, and highly entrepreneurial environment.
A background in geology, mining engineering, metallurgical engineering, mineral processing, or a related technical discipline would be a significant advantage, particularly when combined with strong investment banking or principal investing experience.
Spanish language capability and international or emerging-markets experience would also be considered assets.
Location The role is full-time and office-based in HCRP’s Toronto office at First Canadian Place, with international travel as required to various operations, as well as HCRP's headquarters in the United States.
For high-performing candidates, the role offers unusually broad exposure to complex transactions, senior investment professionals, global operating businesses, and the opportunity to develop rapidly as a principal investor.
