Junior Maintenance Technician – Residential Properties

About the Role

Balto Capital is looking for a hands-on, reliable Junior Maintenance Technician to support the day-to-day maintenance of our residential properties in Edmonton.

This is a great opportunity for someone with 2–3 years of general maintenance, construction, renovation, or property maintenance experience who has developed solid practical skills and wants to continue learning across multiple trades.

You’ll handle a variety of repairs and maintenance requests, support unit turnovers, help keep our buildings safe and well maintained, and work with senior team members and licensed contractors when specialized work is required.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

- Complete maintenance requests and repairs across residential properties
- Patch and repair drywall, including taping, mudding, sanding, priming, and touch-up painting
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including faucets, supply lines, P-traps, shut-offs, and minor leaks
- Diagnose and repair common toilet issues, including fill valves, flappers, flush assemblies, seats, supply lines, and wax rings
- Clear blocked sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, and drains using hand or drum augers
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and replace items such as light fixtures, switches, receptacles, bulbs, and cover plates within the limits permitted for the role
- Test and replace smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and maintain accurate records
- Repair doors, locks, hinges, handles, cabinetry, shelving, blinds, and other fixtures
- Assist with basic appliance troubleshooting and replacement
- Complete repairs and maintenance required for vacant unit turnovers
- Conduct routine building and common-area inspections
- Assist with preventive maintenance and seasonal property upkeep
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule




- Document completed work, photos, materials, and follow-up requirements using our work order system
- Know when a repair requires a licensed trade and escalate appropriately

Requirements:

- 1–3 years of hands-on experience in general maintenance, construction, renovations, or a similar role
- Practical experience with drywall repairs
- Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge
- Experience using hand and power tools safely
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good time management and the ability to prioritize multiple work orders
- A professional and respectful approach when working in tenants’ homes
- Comfort using a phone or tablet to manage work orders, take photos, send emails, and complete documentation
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation to travel between properties
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work including bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working overhead
- Availability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule

Assets include:

- Previous residential or multi-residential maintenance experience
- Trade school, apprenticeship, or other building-maintenance training
- Painting experience
- HVAC or boiler exposure
- WHMIS or other relevant safety certifications
- Experience with property management or work order software
