Role Description The Lead Hand Carpenter is a full-time, on-site role based in Canada, responsible for overseeing and performing advanced carpentry work on custom luxury homes and acreage estates. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting drawings and specifications, framing and finishing, installing doors, windows, cabinetry, and trim, and ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards.
This role leads and mentors carpentry staff on-site, coordinates tasks with other trades, and helps maintain project schedules.
The Lead Hand
Carpenter conducts material take-offs, identifies and resolves site issues, and communicates regularly with site supervisors and project managers. The position requires consistent attention to detail, strong organizational skills,
and a commitment to maintaining Stellar Homes’ high standards of craftsmanship.
Qualifications
- Robust carpentry skills, including framing, finishing, and installation of doors, windows, cabinetry, and trim.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications, with solid layout and measurement abilities.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely, with a thorough understanding of construction safety practices and regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including supervising crews, mentoring apprentices, and coordinating tasks with other trades.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain high workmanship standards on custom projects.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with experience working to project schedules and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with site supervisors, project managers, and clients as needed.
- Previous experience in residential construction, particularly custom or luxury homes; experience in acreage estate builds is an asset.
- Relevant trade certification or journeyperson status in carpentry, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites in the Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and greater Edmonton area.
