Job Overview
Cedar Valley is seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Technician to support our pita chip manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario. This hands-on, multi-skilled position is responsible for keeping production equipment and building systems operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
The Maintenance Technician will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns, complete repairs, and support continuous improvement across our bread-cutting, frying, and bagging/packaging lines. This role involves mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic work, as well as general facility maintenance.
Red Seal certification is not required. We are looking for a versatile technician who understands their scope of training and knows when specialized work must be escalated to a licensed tradesperson or contractor.
Shift: Primarily afternoons, with rotation to other shifts based on business needs
Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Wage: $28.00–$34.00 per hour, based on experience
Duties
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on cutting, frying, and packaging equipment.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues.
- Repair or replace motors, switches, relays, sensors, photo-eyes, VFDs, and other equipment components within the scope of training and qualifications.
- Troubleshoot basic circuits, motors, sensors, drives, and PLC-controlled equipment inputs and outputs.
- Complete equipment changeovers, adjustments, minor fabrication, and welding as required.
- Maintain and monitor spare-parts inventory and identify reorder requirements.
- Perform general building maintenance involving plumbing, lighting, doors, dock equipment,
and basic HVAC or refrigeration concerns.
- Coordinate and assist outside contractors with specialized repairs.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures and all applicable health and safety requirements.
- Follow GMP, SQF, HACCP, sanitation, and other food-safety requirements while working in production areas.
- Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance logs, and repair records in the maintenance management system.
- Participate in health and safety inspections, food-safety audits, corrective actions, and root-cause analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and strengthen preventive maintenance practices.
- Support and cross-train other maintenance team members as required.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, or emergency coverage when required by operational needs.
Experience and Qualifications
- Three to five years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience.
- Experience in food, beverage, or another regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to diagnose equipment problems, identify root causes, and complete effective repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and P&IDs.;
- Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Exposure to Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC troubleshooting is an asset.
- Stainless-steel welding or fabrication experience is an asset.
- Forklift or scissor-lift certification is an asset, or willingness to obtain certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A certificate or diploma in industrial maintenance, millwright, mechatronics, electro-mechanical technology, or a related technical program is preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a fast-paced food manufacturing setting.
Red Seal certification, including 433A Industrial Millwright or 442A Industrial Electrician, is not required. Candidates with strong general mechanical and electrical aptitude are encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and perform hands-on maintenance work for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights or in confined spaces after receiving the required training and protective equipment.
- Ability to work in areas with varying temperatures, including around fryer lines.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including safety footwear, safety glasses, hair nets, and beard nets.
Compensation and Benefits
- $28.00–$34.00 per hour, based on experience.
- Shift premiums for eligible afternoon, midnight, or weekend shifts.
- Overtime opportunities.
Pay: $28.00-$34.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 – 46.0 per week
