Shop Assistant – Heavy Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
Back Country Group is looking for a reliable and motivated Shop Assistant to join our team.
This position will assist with the maintenance and repair of company trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and small equipment both in our shop and occasionally on job sites. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, willing to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with repairs and maintenance on:
- Excavators
- Skid steers
- Loaders
- Dump trucks
- Pickup trucks
- Trailers
- Small engines and construction equipment
- Perform oil changes, filters, greasing and routine preventative maintenance
- Assist with brakes, tires, hydraulic hoses and basic mechanical repairs
- Help troubleshoot mechanical issues
- Assist mechanics with larger repairs
- Perform minor welding and fabrication when required
- Clean and organize the shop, tools and work areas
- Maintain parts, fluids and shop supplies
- Wash and clean trucks and equipment as required
- Assist with equipment inspections
- Travel to job sites to assist with field repairs and service calls
- Pick up parts and supplies when required
- Help load/unload equipment, attachments and materials
- Perform general yard and shop duties
- Assist other departments when required
Qualifications
- Mechanically inclined with an interest in trucks and heavy equipment
- Previous automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, welding or mechanical experience is an asset
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance is preferred
- Welding/fabrication experience is an asset
- Valid Ontario driver's licence
- Able to perform physically demanding work
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, organized and willing to learn
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
Ideal Candidate This position would be a valuable fit for someone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to gain additional experience working on heavy equipment, commercial vehicles and construction equipment.
You do not need to be a licensed mechanic, but you should have basic mechanical knowledge and be comfortable assisting with repairs and maintenance.
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
