Overview
Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc. offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to join its Mining Operations Team as a full-time Mine Technician. We are seeking a motivated and safety-oriented professional to support daily mine operations through accurate field data collection, pit inspections, surveying support, and production reporting.
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the successful candidate will work closely with Mine Engineering, Surveying, Geology, and Operations teams to help execute the mine plan and maintain operational excellence.
Note: This in not a fly in/out role and camp accomodation is not available.
Duties / Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Collect, record, and validate pit data including drill patterns, blast layouts, ore/waste delineation, and material movements.
- Conduct daily pit inspections to identify safety concerns, ground conditions, and operational issues.
- Assist in implementing short-term mine plans and field layouts under the direction of the Mine Engineer or Surveyor.
- Support grade control activities and coordinate with Geology on ore boundary marking.
Surveying and Data Collection
- Perform field measurements and assist with GPS and drone survey activities.
- Download, process, and maintain accurate survey data in designated systems.
- Update pit maps, stockpile volumes, and other operational plans.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on production metrics and equipment performance.
- Maintain logs of drill/blast data, tonnage movements, and safety inspections.
- Support accurate documentation for regulatory compliance.
Safety and Compliance
- Promote and adhere to all of CFI’s Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and field inspections.
- Identify hazards and ensure safe work practices are maintained in all activities.
Education / Experience / Skill
- Diploma or certificate in Mining Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- 1–3 years of experience in an open-pit mining or heavy civil workplace (students/new graduates may be considered).
- Familiarity with mine survey methods, GPS systems, and field data collection tools.
- Computer proficiency; experience with AutoCAD, Surpac, or other mine planning software is an asset.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to work in a field-based outdoor environment.
Working Conditions
- Site-based position located in St. Lawrence, NL.
- Schedule may be rotational or day-based, depending on operational requirements.
- Please note this is a site-based position in St. Lawrence, NL and is not a fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) opportunity. Candidates must currently reside in Newfoundland.
- Work includes both field and office environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Use of appropriate PPE is required in all field areas.
