Role Description The MRU Railcar Repair Technician is a full-time hybrid role based in Devon, AB, with primary work performed on site and some tasks completed from home as appropriate. The technician inspects railcars and related equipment, identifies mechanical issues, and performs repairs and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation. Day-to-day responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical and equipment problems, using tools and diagnostic devices, completing repair documentation, and following safety and cleanliness standards in all work areas.
The role also involves coordinating with team members and supervisors, communicating repair status, and supporting customer satisfaction by ensuring timely, high-quality service. Some administrative tasks, record keeping,
and remote communication may be performed from home when operational needs allow.
Qualifications
- Strong equipment maintenance and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and technical issues on railcars and related systems.
- Appliance or mechanical repair experience demonstrating hands-on skills, safe tool use, and adherence to maintenance procedures.
- Commitment to customer satisfaction, with clear communication skills to relay findings, timelines, and service outcomes to internal teams and clients.
- Knowledge of safety practices, including working around heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and industrial environments, with a focus on compliance and risk reduction.
- Ability to read and follow technical manuals, repair instructions, and work orders; strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Capacity to work in a hybrid arrangement, performing on-site physical tasks in Devon, AB and completing some administrative or planning activities from home.
- Previous experience in railcar repair, industrial maintenance, or mechanical trades is an asset.
- Relevant trade certification, mechanical diploma, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
- Ability to lift and move heavy components, work in varying weather conditions, and use personal protective equipment as required.
