Stagecoach Performing Arts Ottawa West is looking for an engaging and confident Dance Teacher to join our Saturday Main Stages teaching team in Kanata.
Main Stages is our performing arts programme for students aged 6–16. Students rotate through singing, dancing and drama in age-based groups, working with a specialist teacher in each discipline.
We are looking for a dance teacher who can deliver energetic, well-structured classes with a strong musical-theatre focus, helping students develop technique, confidence, performance skills and the ability to tell a story through movement.
The role
You will teach three age-based groups across the afternoon, with each group receiving approximately one hour of dance.
Classes run from 2:00–5:00 p.m. on Saturdays during Stagecoach school terms.
This is a specialist teaching role, and we are particularly interested in applicants with experience teaching musical theatre, jazz, commercial or performance-based dance to children and young people.
You will have freedom to bring your own teaching style and choreography while working within the wider Stagecoach programme and alongside our singing and drama teachers.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Have previous experience teaching dance to children and/or teenagers
- Have a solid background in musical theatre, jazz, commercial dance or a related style
- Are confident planning and leading classes independently
- Can adapt material for different age groups and ability levels
- Can teach choreography while also developing technique and performance quality
- Bring energy, structure and strong classroom leadership
- Are reliable and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a teaching team
- Are available Saturdays during our fall term
- Are able to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check
Professional performance experience, dance training, post-secondary performing arts training or substantial teaching experience is preferred. A formal teaching qualification is an asset but is not required.
